[Render] Toa Ferron Avotai (Technorealm OC) by TheMugbearer [Render] Toa Ferron Avotai (Technorealm OC) by TheMugbearer
Ferron is an OC Toa of Iron from a Technorealm Bionicle AU. The character belongs to my friend Geardirector.
Ferron was  a Nynrah Ghost in the past. Unlike all Nynrah Ghosts, he never was blessed with visions of blueprints, and never built anything brilliant. One day he saved a wounded Toa that was attacked by the Dark Hunters, who lent their Power to Ferron. Led by strange visions of objects and voices, Ferron is traveling to find his Destiny.

Well, the creation process is rather straightforward. First, I make a 3d model in Lego Digital Designer. Then I use a fan-created utility to convert an ldd format file into POV-Ray format file. POV-Ray is an old raytracing program that is pretty CPU heavy. Once the converted model has been traced, it's saved as a png file that I post-process in Adobe Photoshop.

How well are you familiar with Bionicle anyway?

almost nothing.. i just read one comic that had them searching through a world of jungles, deserts and such, and finding some masks. but that world had no intelligent species of organic type, just some small animals, maybe birds, and other robots of even more odd shapes

then i forgot about it and didn't even bother to google toa history :XD:

I see. You can look up my Commission info. I don't do Bionicle models exclusively.

If you'll feel like getting into Bionicle though, there's a lot of info online. For starters, a whole fan-created and maintained encyclopedia, the Biosector 01. Then there are also great novels, scans of which could be found here.

Bionicle was a great toy series, and it had an incredible world. I am proud to be the fan even now, when the line was discontinued for a while.

I really wanna learn how to build masks like you do. Do you use LDD?

Not for me. I apparently need a new graphics card for 10 to run it when it ran fine on 7.

That's weird since LDD is not all that needy in terms of graphics. Unless your brick counts are about 10k per model...

What's the part for the ball at the base of his hammer? It looks like a zamor sphere but they don't have a connection point.

As far as the design goes I love the hammer. Not keen on how the shoulders are hanging by an axle, but that's more personal preference than anything. There's an excellent range of motion out of that though.

Looked through the rest of the renderings while typing this. Gotta say you've got a good eye for building brick masks. Might take a stab at Nokama's hydro blades if I get the chance.

It's BB-8's body. :P

That's what I was counting on: the motion range. =)

Thank you! I consider to be having a knack for brick-built masks. :3 I still need to finish off the Turaga Masks though... Huna and Matatu give me trouble.

Gonna add that to my list of parts that have surprised me so far. Might one up on Bricklink when I get a solid idea and the time to build it.

Happy MOCing!

Do you build them with LDD?

Yep. I build them in LDD, then put through a LDD2POV converter, then render in POV-Ray tracer, and finalize the image in Photoshop.
