Damn that sucks that the castle bit the dust.

The place burned in 1969, and that was really the beginning of the end. Forty years of exposure to the elements took their toll.

Wow ... WOW! I will take a look at the link to read up on the story ... good thing you got this shot before the collapse.

What a beautiful place! (That is me waving from the shore! Can you see me?) :giggle:

That's cool catching that float plane flying over. I don't know if you've ever seen the work of Shaun O'Boyle, but he has some excellent photos of this island: [link] Also check out his tug Boat Graveyard photos,

Thanks! I was quite lucky. I have more shots of it doing a touch and go a few moments after this shot, but it was pretty far away.

Thanks for the link. I've seen his tug boat graveyard photos.

It's all about being in the right spot at the right time and having a camera!

You're welcome! I hope they are able to restore the castle.

Thanks!

Actually, there is land just to the right of it, but I framed the shot so that you don't see it. See: [link]

This is the castle that a man built for his love, correct? I remember just watching a bit about it on a TV show. Very cool to see a picture.

Actually, it was built as a place to store all the weapons that he had amassed. Bannerman was an arms/military surplus trader, and he had outgrown his facility in Brooklyn (and people were worried about all the ordinance that he had).

Ahhhh. This may be a different castle then. Still very interesting and beautiful.

Thanks!

You're thinking of Boldt's Castle in the Thousand Islands region on the St. Lawrence Seaway. See: [link]

Very interesting. What are those small partially submerged structures?

Gun Turrets!

There used to be an enclosed harbor on the east side of the island, facing the railroad tracks. Most of it has been eroded away. It was embellished with gun turrets (the owner sold guns!) See: [link] and [link] and Google Images
