Database Round-Up 2
Database Round-Up 3

Hello and welcome to TheKnow Database Round-Up 4! Thank you so much to everyone who’s become a member or watcher, or added to the database since last time. It’s greatly appreciated—the more people who take part, the better the group will work ^^

:thumb357253410: I just want to start with some general information: it appears it is no longer possible to submit scraps directly to group folders. When submitting your scrap, you have to submit from the deviation page itself. Simply click on the Add to a Group button on the righthand side. (If you need any further instructions, they are on our profile.) Sorry for any inconvenience ^^”

Here are the latest submissions to the database:

Travel and Home

Raised Across America: sayoran13’s family is from the deep south, Alabama and Georgia to be precise. He was born in Colorado and moved every three years to Florida, Colorado, Seattle, Huntsville AL, and up to Delaware. He states that if anyone has a question regarding life in any of those places, especially southern life and culture, or what it's like always moving into a new place as a child feel free to ask.

Skills and Work

Scuba Diving: wispofcloud has been diving off and on for the past 7 years in both tropical and cold water. She has received her open water and advanced open water certifications through NAUI and received her dry suit, NITROX, and rescue diver certifications through PADI. Currently working on her Dive Master certification, though that is on hold at the moment until she is financially able to continue (it's a pricy hobby!). She has been lucky enough to experience diving in Thailand, Florida, Hawaii, Micronesia, Australia, and Seattle.

Personal

My lovely life: sayoran13’s mother suffers from depression and abusing prescription drugs and alcohol so the majority of his childhood he was raised by his two older sisters who helped serve as a buffer so that his mother simply ignored him rather than take her problems out on him. However, being ignored so thoroughly led to him turning to alcohol at the age of 13 and suffering from extreme depression until he finally got help at 20. All of this led him to spend a lot of time getting to know who he was inside and caused him to realize that he is pansexual and recently he’s been coming to terms with this and trying to work up the nerve to let someone not on the internet know.

Through his short life he’s been privileged to know many people who suffer from many mental illnesses including but not limited to: Schizophrenia, dementia, Dissociative Identity Disorder, Depression (himself, his mother, his sister), and Pedophilia (one of his best friends), as well as almost every form of fetishism you can think of. So to summarize a little, he can provide information about living with alcoholics, abusing alcohol, recognizing one's own sexuality, and experience with almost every form of mental illness.

Culture

Southern Jew: sayoran13’s family on both sides has lived in the south, in the same neighborhood, for the past 4 generations, outside of his siblings and himself, every relative he has lives south of South Carolina. In addition his family is either devout Catholic or Protestant, again excluding his siblings and himself who converted with his parents to Judaism when he was young. So any questions about conversion, Judaism, or the culture in the deep south he’s happy to answer if he can.

Science

Ocean Science and Robotics: wispofcloud focused her college studies on oceanography and has work experience in underwater robotics.

Oceanography is split into four fields: -Biological, -Chemical, -Geological, -Physical. Please note that biological oceanography (microbio like plankton and viruses) is not the same as marine biology (macrobio such as fish and dolphins).

She is familiar with all four fields though she specialized in physical oceanography, particularly tides and tidal energy. While in school, she also spent three years working in a robotics lab with autonomous vehicles called seagliders. She understands the basic design of most instruments used in oceanography, how data is collected and analyzed, and what life is like at sea on a research vessel.

If any of those areas would be useful for your writing research, please contact the submitter directly by sending them a note. If you want to make a submission to the database yourself, the information is on our profile.

Requests

We take requests for information too. If you need someone else’s personal experience or knowledge as help with your writing research, and it isn’t in the database, leave a comment here. We’ll gather all the requests together and put them out as another journal, asking if anyone can help. Though if someone reading this journal sees a request in the comments they can help with, please feel free to contact the requester immediately.

You can make a request at any time—leave a comment on whatever is the current journal or on the group profile, or send us a note. It isn’t necessary to be a member or a watcher to make a request, but it would be lovely if you joined in. :D

Favourites

If the database or requests system helps you in writing something, we would like to put the finished article in our favourites. So, if you post your piece on dA and would like it to feature in our collection, please send us a link! We’re thinking about featuring the stories in our journals too.

Watching TheKnow

A note for anyone passing by: we understand some people may not want their details permanently on show in the database, but may feel comfortable talking to requesters privately via note. In that case, please consider watching TheKnow so you can keep an eye on the journals and what’s being looked for.
