Zephyros Portrait

Honestly, I never thought my fey/wood elf concept would be a hit. Anyway, after a bit of time to ponder, I have two of the characters nailed down. The first one is Zephyros.

Very few wood elves ever venture out of their forest homes and interact with the outside world, and Zephyros is one of them. Initially sent out as the first wave of explorers and intelligence gatherers, Zephyros was quick to bond with some of the other races that lived alongside him. Unfortunately, the elven longevity proved to be a double-edged sword, and Zephyros had to watch his friends die one after the other, either killed on adventures or simply from old age. By the time he reached his 300th birthday, he quietly returned back to his home. The Zephyros that returned from the outside world had changed dramatically, and he can come off as being grumpy in interactions, like he was hardly interested in anything. During this time, he learned his brother had gotten married, and most of his time was spent mentoring his niece Tiffa, who he saw a lot of his younger self in.

Times were changing in the forest yet again, as the great tree was discovered to be ailing and in need of one resource: amber. The problem was that amber could only be found outside of the forest, which meant the wood elves had to venture out once again. Being the only wood elf with any experience, Zephyros was handed the role of expedition leader, something that initially annoyed him. Having lost his friends and innocence, he was uninterested in returning back to the world that brought him much sorrow. However, he also could not resist his niece's requests, who was very eager to see the outside world for herself. Finally, he agreed, taking a small group of handpicked wood elf warriors to go on this expedition.

Zephyros can come off as rather grumpy and disinterested, but he does have a caring side, mainly through his interactions with his niece Tiffa. His time outside the forest had hardened his outlook in life, which turned him into the jaded and cynical figure he is. As a leader, Zephyros shows a firmer side of himself, being able to rally his expedition and motivate them to keep fighting. Being the only one with experience of the outside world, he has the thankless job of reigning in the enthusiasm of his expedition members, including his niece. Zephyros is said to have a rather "crude" and "dark" sense of humor, perhaps a reflection of his cynical nature.

Although Zephyros is a capable archer like many of his wood elf brethren, his preferred weapons are a pair of spears, crafted from the enchanted wood of the forest. In battle, Zephyros usually only fights with one spear at a time, depending on the situation. The longer spear is a conventional weapon, while the shorter one is coated with potions intended to slow down enemies with each strike. It also helps that the elves are blessed with tremendous agility, which allows him to develop an unconventional spear fighting style.
