Originally written by Jonathan Trueman & Phil Fehrle, adapted & edited by July Leonard It was a beautiful spring day on the Island of Sodor.  At a viaduct construction site, all the machines and their banksman have just started a new day’s work and the place is a beehive of activity.  A quick trip around the site: Jack was excited.  He and Alfie were busy putting a ballast base in service trenches that Alfie had dug.  Jack’s never done this before.  Another skill he’s learning.  The job was also dirty.  That makes Alfie happy. "More dirt means more fun." He always said. This job involved Jack going to get a load of ballast from the ballast pile, then bringing it back and dumping it in Alfie’s trench.  Once the ballast was in the trench, Alfie spreads it with his bucket, while Jack goes back for another load.  As always, Jack is exuberant, full of energy and rushing about. He scoots up to the trench edge and starts to dump his load. “Careful!  Mind the trench, Jack!” Alfie admonished.

Based on the original story by Sean Gannon, adapted & edited by July Leonard. 98462 & 87546 were shut in the shed & still feeling indignant, having been scolding by The Fat Director, severly, for bullying Thomas, Edward & Henry & bumping & banging their passenger trains. They thought they were in the right & constantly criticized him & the other engines for this. "I should be pulling high speed express passengers trains, not slow goods trains!" Complained 98462 one evening. "I'm clearly too good for this blasted railway!" "That makes two of us." Agreed 87546. "I should be in use, not sit in the shed, collecting dust like that relic Edward should be doing!" "More likely The Fat Director should retire him, or just keep in the shunting yards like Little Thomas!" Added 98462. "Can't pull his trains without messing up if you ask me." Put in 87546. "Is that so?" Said a familiar voice. It was Henry the green engine, who heard the whole conversation. "Perhaps you two should try shunting your
