Harry Dresden

By thegryph
"The world is getting weirder. Darker every single day. Things are spinning around faster and faster, and threatening to go completely awry. Falcons and falconers. The center cannot hold.

But in my corner of the country, I'm trying to nail things down. ... I don't want to live in a world where the strong rule and the weak cower. I'd rather make a place where things are a little quieter. Where trolls stay the hell under their bridges, and where elves don't come swooping out to snatch children from their cradles. Where vampires respect the limits, and where the faeries mind their p's and q's.

My name is Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden. Conjure by it at your own risk. When things get strange, when what goes bump in the night flicks on the lights, when no one else can help you, give me a call. I'm in the book."

- Jim Butcher

Edit: To answer the two most common questions I get about this - the dog was intended to be one of the hexenwulfen from Fool Moon, though if it makes you happy to make it Mouse in your heads, I'm cool with that. For all the endless commentary on his hat... seriously, guys, this piece is probably four years old at this point. Please take it as read that I have been reminded by many, many people that he doesn't wear one in canon, but I'm unlikely to change it this far down the road.

May I use it on my handmade item?

Given that Jim Butcher requested that no one make money off of fan art, I'd be happy to do a commissioned piece for you, but if it's being used for crafts you're selling, please don't.

Oh, this is nice. As has been said, I could see this as an official book cover or piece of promotional art.
(As far as the dog goes, I didn't think Mouse. I've always pictured Mouse as more like a Tibetan Mastiff. I thought it was Billy.)

I like the look of the character makes him look like an old agent.
I'd've sworn the Hexenwulf belts didn't do full transformations, but left them in something approaching a middle ground between humanoid and canine....

Honestly, though, my first thought was that the wolf was probably Billy. Looks stocky enough.

Typical Dresden.

"Hey, what's this one the ground?"
*Something behind him already trying to kill him*

Ok, I'm not talking about the hat, but he looks a bit short. I mean, Dresden should look like a NBA player in trenchcoat. The wolf is obviously a werewolf, it could never be Mouse.
The technique is brilliant. Just brilliant.

Oh this looks so bad ass! I recently jut got into the series not too long ago and I'm really enjoying the stories mix of fantasy, crime drama, and humor. The colors, composition, and shading. Its all well done!

LOVE IT! My favorite wizard from my favorite series. I love how the author made it seem like he sometimes talks to the audience. I always find myself laughing out loud. :XD:
"I followed the trail of smitten fiends. Smiten fiends? Smited fiends? Smoted fiends? Don't look at me. I never finished high school."
This really captures the feeling of the books.  I really love the Chicago skyline and the lighting.
This looks fantastic, and hey, he wears the hat in the cover art for the books, so even though it's not in the text it kind of works anyway. Personally, I love the whole piece!

He's in a hat in all the book covers, so much so that Butcher even jokes about it in one of the more recent books, after he dons his infamous black leather duster. So screw it, it's in keeping and it gives him that really gritty Dirty Harry detective feel that is so prominent in the books.

Personally I took one look at this and was like YEAAAAH FOOL MOON!!! I love it. This is a great piece.
