Description

Warp is the “physical manifestation of insanity”. Due to the influence of Eldritch technology and knowledge, as well as the Warp dimension, it is not too common to see people with a significant amount of warp. Warp has both physical, psychological effects on you, and sometimes those around you.

The most common cause of Warping is due to FTL travel, as the Warp Drives cause the ship to use the Warp Dimension as a way to achieve FTL travel. Staying conscious within the Warp Dimension makes people gain more Warp, which is why passengers are unconscious during the trip and the same reason why Pilots tend to retire early and suffer from numerous mental conditions. Warp can also cause various unexplainable events, life vomitting flux, increased perception, or inexplainable whispers. It also tends to draw the ire of certain dark entities...

In AEON, there is only one modern faction capable of properly calculating and detecting warp before it becomes visible, the Jolt Foundation. They calculate this through the percentage of warp per active neuron in the brain, though at higher levels it will be detectable through neurons in the spinal cord or even across the body. The unit for this is known as the WCN (Warp Concentration per Neuron).

After reaching approximately 50WCNs of warp, (Joltaean Calculi) it will begin to manifest itself upon you rapidly, generally starting at the closest point to the brain, or the dominant eye. Depending on the 'majority' of WCNs, the physical manifestation will be different.
  -TWCNs, or Temporary Warp is largely inconsequential, usually fading over time naturally. It shows the weakest of all the types, spreading a light purple discoloration throughout nervous tissue and largely remaining there, even in high amounts.
  -WCNs, or Sticky Warp will be more difficult to rid yourself of, requiring a safe, secure environment, a lack of anxiety, psychological help, or special medications. It appears as a dark purple discoloration, and does not remain in neurological tissue, spreading across the face the longer it remains, and the more there is, the darker the discoloration.
  -PWCNs, Permanent Warp are the most dangerous classification of warp, as there is no known way to berid themselves of it. It appears as a nearly black, amorphous discoloration that can damage and numb tissue permanently and will spread across the body rapidly as more is gained. In higher amounts, it will become a reflection of the warp itself, changing the tissue into a black, glassy substance with small 'starpoints', that make the warp spot appear as a window into the void itself. Should the TWCN reach 100%, they will be converted into a 'Celestial' and almost all sanity will be lost to all but the strongest willed individuals. Their entire body will be converted to this glassy substance in the process.
