My Bio

Glendon Mellow, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Honours. [Last updated: 22 November 2021] My art has been featured in numerous science blogs, magazines, books and book covers, and exhibits illustrating the intersection of art + science. I also give talks about my own work, the importance of social media to art promotion, and the growing field of #SciArt.

You can view my LinkedIn profile to learn more about my experiences in science communication, social media management, talks & presentations, and professional illustration. I am currently available for freelance work and speaking engagements. The Flying Trilobite

My personal art blog has been running since 2007. Art in progress, personal news, and the occasional set of photos from bike trips. Lately I'm focused on a Field Guide to Flying Trilobites.

Our science-art blog appeared on the Scientific American magazine blog network for 5.5 years, and has relaunched as a standalone site. Check for news, interviews, and art analysis written by my co-bloggers and myself: artists Kalliopi Monoyios & Katie McKissick.

SciArt Community & Weekly Twitter Chats I am the founder of the SciArt Community, part of the @HiCommunities Twitter pilot. I also co-host a weekly SciArt Chat with Julia Krolik, typically found on TwitterSpaces each Wednesday at 9pm EST.

I live in Toronto, Canada with my wife Michelle and our 2 boys and our dog Luna. My favourite colour is Naples Yellow.

You can find me on Twitter and Instagram as @FlyingTrilobite. Contact me:

Canceled my DA Core subscription. In the process, I checked "Other" as the reason, and the platform asked me to fill in a ticket why. This is what I said. 🔸🔹🔸🔹 While I loved that you extended Core protections to cover the scourge of NFT gallery scraping and signed up for Core as a result, I'm willing to forego that protection due to your plans to launch a word-prompt AI platform that relies on LAION-5B. This is not a knee-jerk reaction; I am a former writer for Scientific American on art, science and copyright issues; I am an outspoken critic for unethical AI datasets and have been interviewed for news outlets including the NY Times. I care deeply about artists getting their due: any goodwill DA deserves in protecting artists against NFT theft via Core alerts has been squandered by the cake-and-eat-it-too plans you have for "no AI" notifications coupled with using Stable Diffusion and LAION-5B by extension. I listened to the Twitter Space where your team repeatedly cut off RJ

Had a lot of fun with this over the holidays! If you need to upgrade your illustration tech, enjoy my video review for the Kamvas Pro 16 tablet by HUION. I painted my recent scarab-trilobite painting completely with the Kamvas Pro 16 in ArtRage Vitae. Read the full review for contest deets (open to Canadians only, sorry). Full review on my blog.
