The third by thefirstfleet The third by thefirstfleet
The third Starship Polaris, ready to sail out.

I modified my Nestor class, to have low-slung nacelles. It's a Polaris, and Polarises need to have this layout :D

Yes. It does. Just like the Enterprise needs to have it's own particular layout.

Does this class of starship have a name? Are there any other images of it?

Her name is USS Polaris, and is of the Nestor class. There are some images of her in my gallery, but not in this form.

This is very nice, but My favorite ship is the 'Nestor' class.  The Nestor reminds me of a "B" era take on the 24th century 'New Orleans' class.  The Nestor also seems like a "lighter weight, somewhat stripped down of its bulk" version of the 'Excelsior' class.

I remember the NESTOR class having the engine pylons straight out with the engines on the ends , neither up or down set.  The straight out set seems better than the swung down pylons.  That is what I meant by I prefer the Nestor class.  This is a nice variant but the original was better to me.

I made it into the low-slung nacelle version one, because shes a Polaris, and this is a Polaris design mainstay.

I like the Polaris but I prefer the Nestor version better. It's just me.  They are all great to me.

Just out of curiosity:

Polaris is a name, like Enterprise and Yamato, that appears on several successive starships of different classes spanning generations.

Why weren't the NCC registries mirroring this, as they were with a few other Federation starships, including Enterprise? (e.g., NCC-782-B; that kind of thing)

Or were the successive starships named Polaris supposed to be each commissioned many years apart from one another?

From a real-world perspective, I felt the A, B, C, etc lettering should be unique to the Enterprise. As much as I love my Polarises, they are not as important in the history of the Trekverse, even in my own fanon, as the Big E's.

Also, if you look at the registries, there is a pattern. The original Polaris was NCC-82. The second one was NCC-782. Tis one is NCC-3782.

Also, many of these ships skipped generations. There was an ENT era one, a TOS era one (never got refitted), a late Movie / Lost era one, a pre-TNG (Cardassian War) ere one, and an early 25th century one.

Nice Job, but I feel the nacelles would benefit from perhaps hanging further down, just a couple decks lowers.
Still I'm sure she do the name proud in Polaris: the next generation ;)

I love the Nestor class design!Love Seeing how the Excelsior Class seems to be new work horse of the Federation and they are still in production during Starfleet's war with the Dominion. Can I assume same thing can be said for the Nestor class and is it still around; it would be a shame to discontinue a incredible design. Heart :) (Smile)

Yeah, I think that once it wasn't the ship-of-the-line anymore, this class became ther sturdy space mule :D

I like it. Though if I may offer a bit of Criticism, It might just look this way because of the angle but The Nacelles don't look like they have at least a 50% line of sight, Maybe mounting the pylons directly to the secondary hull might solve that if you do intend to follow Roddenberry and Probert's Guidelines about Nacelle placement.

The nacelles are completely visible from the front.
