While I do like the Enterprise redesign they did for the Discovery finale, THIS is what Captain Pike's Enterprise actually looks like!

The original had no bridge window. That was a sensor palette.

Whaaaaaaa, they redesigned it? Really? I already have enough visual continuity issues with the show as it is that, try as I might, I just can't resolve, so...that's not really helping.

Also, I am so behind on watching that show... :P

It's actually a good redesign. As I've mentiuoned in another comment, at first, I thought it's the real deal. Yeah, they added some new parts to make it more realistic and fitting with the style of DSC, but it's MUCH more a traditional design than the Ryan Church abomination.

Eh, I didn't mind the Ryan Church design so much--My one big complaint about it was that the warp nacelles were too close together, something I'm glad they've largely fixed with the new Enterprise-A design they've unveiled in Beyond.

Anyway, that's heartening to hear, easing my worries a little. I do largely like the story Discovery is seeking to tell, but it's visual design throughout the whole show keeps rubbing me the wrong way and so it puts me at odds with the show at times...part of the reason why I'm still so behind on watching it (think I'm only six of seven episodes in...? Not sure on the exact count on that off hand).

Yeah, they did. Although it's actually a decent redesign, at first, I thought it is the classic Connie.

Mmmmmm! I wish you'd turn on those white rectangles. Captain Pike needs his stabilizer beams just as much as "Captain Georgiou" does!

STABILIZER BEAMS!! :D

I'm so glad that Discovery isn't afraid to say 50s and 60s stuff!

As much as like both the pilot era Enterprise and even the one in Discovery, I think I can understand that the design of the ship in Discovery can not be some people's cup of tea due it not looking like it did in the TOS pilots. In fact, they could have chosen to make it look like the TOS pilot version (Discovery's ships do look more futuristic than one would expect from the TOS era). Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the design of the Enterprise in Discovery (and I would really love it if Eaglemoss could make a die-cast replica of this design), but I can understand some people preferring the classics. :) I like classics too

They had to revamp the design, and I like it, too. However, I will always prefer the classics.

The Enterprise in discovery does seem to take some cues from both the Enterprise series (mostly in the nacelles) and the "Phase II" concept art for the old 1701 before it got turned into the Motion Picture.

I never did watch any of those episodes, so never got to see what it looks like. I kinda have an issue how CBS handled that series(pay to watch bs). I already pay for satellite TV and for my internet! I just can't justify paying CBS to watch just that show......

Never tried the 'scene? ie. file sharing/VPN/torrents or a transcode like Real or All Debrid?
All I have is antennae, mainly for the CBC and news, and download everything else, streaming is for noobs.
Internet costs enough these days, now double of Europe and US [Spectrum] though UK cousins have to
VPN because even web sites get blocked there.

Oh, BTW TFF, great work as usual.

no, don't want to deal with those due to the fact they are known to harbor viruses and Trojans and I spent a lot of money on my machine. I don't want hackers that hide in those to screw it up for them to get their jollies ruining other peoples lives!.

Its not dangerous at all, I'm an old fart of 62 but with AVG Free, MalwareBytes Free, NoScript and AdblockPlus tuned properly, along with the TinyWall enhancement to the standard Windows firewall, I stay safe. The owners of those sites work to keep sites clean but that's is where NoScript comes in, to help the stock Firefox redirect interrupt be even stronger.
If you want, I'll give you URLs to the six places I trust.  Its mostly ISPs and places like CNET that spread paranoia, though you should use a downloader like Free Downoad Manager or JDownloader. They each have an selection to make your virus scanner checkout archives when completed and the one I use FDM, during download, indicates in the dialogue, if the community has reported if a file is malicious or not, letting you stop it.  I have never run into any of these problems. If an old fart like me can do it, anyone can. (damn! still no way to P.M. here?)

The Discovery Enterprise isn't a bad looking ship, but it is definitely wrong for the Prime Universe. The original will always be the golden standard.

The one thing they really got wrong was the nacelle caps, I guess to make it less confusing for people who weren't that into older Star Trek. Overall though it was very faithful - for a second I actually thought it was the original, until the angle changed. Certainly could have done a lot worse and I'm hoping we see more of it.

Side note: I like that they made the neck slightly shorter, and that deflector is perfect (though much smaller than it "should" be).

I missed the nacelle spikes. Also, while the angled pylons look too "modern", I can understand why they used them.

Ehhh... I am disappointed with Discovery; all the ships are incorrect for the time period, and while they did try to stay more faithful to the look of the Enterprise than that crap-fest of new movies, they still screwed it up by changing it.  I don't understand why there is this need to "update" things when the original was perfect exactly the way it was - like this picture.  THAT is how the Enterprise should look.

It's all about marketing. I quickly came to the understanding, that DSC was not made for us. It was made for those for whom the Abrams movies are Star Trek. All the (botched) canon connections are just bones thrown to a rabid "retro" fanbase.

Ironically the Abrams' films were more respectful. They didn't hide the fact that they were a parallel universe, which existed side by side the "Prime" universe. It allowed them to reboot the franchise without disrespecting what came before. CBS doesn't care about that sort of thing though and just straight up rebooted it. Shame.

Yeah. :/  Unfortunate.  It's an interesting way to see how copyright sometimes works against the material it's supposed to protect.  Ah well - it's pretty much why I tell folks getting into Star Trek to start at the beginning, and stop watching after ST:TNG.

Nothing will ever replace the original.

Though to be fair, I was RELIEVED to see that Discovery stayed as faithful as they did to the original design, and I like what they did. I'm wierd in that I actually like the ship and art designs that they used in Discovery.

It's just the Discovery itself that I think looks like a bag of hammered ass.

I like the Discovery's own design myself. It's a purporuse-built ship, it looks unlike anything we've ever seen.

I feel the same way... except about the Discovery herself. She's kind of grown on me.
Plus we've all seen far worse designs in the Federation Fleet.

Well there's still time for a refit or two. Only thing this really alters is The Cage and the clips in The Menagerie
Which to be frank, have been a continuity snarl for decades.

Actually the fact that this implies another set of major refits could help explain why the Enterprise and the Constitution class as a whole (save a couple of exceptions) were retired while the Miranda class, Constellation, and Excelsior classes lived on. After so many refits, her keel probably couldn't take much more.
There are limits to how much you can upgrade a vessel before it becomes more effective to replace her.
