Scandinavian Empire - 1821 (EU4)

Another map based on my latest eu4 game. This time, I played with the latest DLC "Lion of the north". I started with Norway and easely conquered all of northern Europe.

The Kingdom of Norway was born after the 1444 independence war, which dismantled the union of Kalmar. While Sweden went on a slow and long decline, Norway experienced a succession of competent rulers, one of them uniting the kingdoms of Norway and Denmark, this time with norvegian dominance. With the help of the strong danish economy, Norway-Denmark became one of the richest european countries, rivaling England, the Netherlands and Lübeck. When Sweden was finally conquered, the Empire of Scandinavia was proclaimed.

While colonial expansion was made in North America and in Africa, Europe remained the continent on which the empire had the most dominance. England was bullied to the point where they were reduced to Southern England and Wales, London having been sieged and sacked at least five times. The whole Baltic Sea became a scandinavian lake, and the formerly russian lands near the Neva estuary became the territory of a newly founded city named Christiansborg. Finns, carelians, estonians, latvians and lituanians, having suffered under russian rule for more than two centuries, welcomed their new overlords as liberators, as the scandinavians had a more relaxed governement as well as a shared religion: protestantism. England, Austria, Poland and Russia tried to ally themselves to defeat Scandinavia and their french allies, but their coalition was too weak and badly coordinated to be successful.

Scandinavia was one of the earliest nations to convert to protestantism, which spread over the country extremely fast. With his immense wealth and influence, Scandinavia became the defender of the faith of the protestant branch of christianity. The other particularity of this empire was his early democratic system, based on the parliament in Oslo called the Storting. By the beginning of the 19th century, the empire of Scandinavia has the 2nd highest trade income, the 3rd largest navy, the 4th largest army and 4th largest income, the 5th richest city and the 5th largest landmass.
