What The Group Accepts For Its Galleries

GROUP NEWS

Hi there, members!

First let me say "Thank you" to all who participated in the "Real Surreal Mural" game that ended yesterday! Most of the teams have the instructions on how to submit to the group so you'll be able to download the Desktop Wallpapers that they've created very soon.

I hope your summer has gotten off to a great start...at least, I'm speaking to those of us who live in the Northern Hemisphere where the Summer Solstice occurred sometime between June 20th and the 21st.

I live in the southwest desert, and boy have we had some hot days! It was 120 degrees and over for a week at the beginning of the month, but it's cool down to 109 to 111 degrees. Still hot, but not as miserably hot.

We start our first challenge in a couple of months this week.  I hope you like the theme and join me to create some fascinating photomanipulations.

OUR CURRENT CHALLENGE

THIS CHALLENGE HAS BEEN EXTENDED--NEW DUE DATE IS POSTED HERE
Our current challenge is called, "Sibling Portraits", and it features stock of some of my all time favorite stock providers: mizzd-stock, lockstock, magikstock, cubstock, mjranum-stock, and :devskydancer-stock.

:bulletwhite: You are going to choose your favorite stock photo from below, visit the stock provider's art account to select two or three more stocks to arrange with the one and create a family-portrait. In the stock photo, the model must be looking outwards, looking at the audience (or the camera/photographer), just as in a real family portrait.

This is almost like the "Seeing Double" Challenge that we most recently did last February-April, but instead of creating a scene, we're creating a portrait as described below.

:bulletwhite: THEME: Family Portrait.

:bulletblue:DUE DATE:  July 30th, 2017

Please Check The Countdown Clock On The HOME Page For The Exact Time In Your Area.  Late Entries Will Be Added To The Open Gallery Folder  For Your Skill Level, So Please Include Your Skill Level In The Artist's Comments.

:bulletblue: ENTRIES: You Can Enter Twice For The Competition.

See Below On How To Enter When Your Photomanipulation Is Complete.

THIS IS WHAT WE'RE DOING

:bulletblue: Before you select your model stock, think...you are NOT creating a scene like we did with the "Seeing Double" Challenge, but rather a "family portrait" of sisters, brothers, or sisters and brothers.

I got this idea when I saw this stock photo at Eirian-stock:

Three Sisters by Eirian-stock

That stock reminded me of a deviation that I had once created for a "Seeing Double" Challenge that ended up looking  like a portrait of sisters:

The Captains by TheFantaSim

:bulletblue: As stated above, you are going to select one of the stocks below and visit the stock account's gallery to find one, two, or three other stocks that you can bring together to create a deviation that looks like a portrait.

:bulletblue: You can mix and match male model stocks with female model stocks as long as you're using one of the male stock or one of the female  stock from our REQUIRED STOCK below with at least ONE other stock from the same account.

:star:In other words, I could use the required stock from lockstock, one more from lockstock; then a male stock from any other model stock account that fits the theme of your portrait to show two sisters and a brother.:star:

:bulletblue: The background and the environment, the additional objects in the portrait, should correlate with the theme of the stock, as with my example above.

:bulletwhite: You do not have to show the entire body of the stock on these portraits as when using other full-body model stock.

:bulletwhite: The REQUIRED STOCK Model MUST BE Large And Forward In The Picture Plane. THIS Person Is The Most Important Of All Of The Stock Models.

SIMILAR EXAMPLES

Here are more examples of what we're doing.  Remember, your models should be facing forward, but this should help show you how to get more than one person into an image: 1) by overlapping and 2) by making figures become smaller as they move towards the back of the space.

On The Hunt by TheFantaSim  Agents Of The Queen by TheFantaSim  Land, Ho by TheFantaSim

Portrait of A Couple by TheFantaSim  The Oracles by TheFantaSim  The Gentlemen's Club by TheFantaSim

Remember, These Are EXAMPLES ONLY! Please Follow The Instructions Above For The Current Challenge And Do You Own Thing!

:bulletblue: Remember, if you use 3D Rendered stock with your Photo stock, you are creating a Mixed Media. Do not select photomanipulation as your media when you categorize your deviation. Categorize it as Digital Art > Mixed Media.

:bulletwhite: I will be checking for 3D Rendered stock and will send you a reminder Note if you forget to select the right category.

:bulletblue: DON’T NEGLECT TO FOLLOW THE RULES OF CREATING THE  ILLUSION OF DEPTH AND SPACE IN THE ENVIRONMENT THAT YOUR MODELS ARE LIVING IN!

:bulletblue: If you need to review the rules of creating the illusion of depth and space, please read this “About” walk through.

About: Creating The Illusion Of Space And Depth

:bulletblue: DON’T NEGLECT TO FOLLOW THE RULES OF LIGHT AND SHADOW.

:bulletblue: If you need to review the rules of light and shadow, see this quick review here:

Remember: We Are Artist Who Use Photomanipulation As Our Medium.  You CAN And SHOULD:
:bulletblue: Make sure that the direction of your Light is consistant through out your scene.
:bulletblue: Edit a stock as you need to for the final result that you want: Remove or Add Something, Change Color, Up/Lower Saturation, etc.
:bulletblue: Use Brushes, Textures, Special Techniques And A Little Show Of Special Effects To Enhance Your Over All Image.
:bulletblue: Create a dynamic Scene!

We Are FINE ARTIST! Remember:

:bulletblue:  BE CREATIVE! It’s more than simply sticking one stock into a background stock!

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOUR DEVIATION IS COMPLETED--For COMPETITIVE AND NON-COMPETITIVE ENTRIES

Updated: January 2, 2016

:bulletblue: First, in the Artist's Comments box, make sure you post that your deviation is for the "Sibling Portraits" Challenge  at ManipulateThis and include our icon.

:bulletblue: Second, have the level you're entering under (Level 2 for Beginners; Level 3 for Intermediate; Level 4 for Advance).

:bulletred:THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT! I'm not going to guess and your deviation will be place in the NON-COMPETITIVE Category.

:bulletwhite: Choose your level carefully and accurately. A wrong level can affect your success in the group, and I want everyone to succeed!

:bulletwhite: If you're not sure about your level, please read a description of each level in the rules.manipulatethis.deviantart.com/… , or contact me and I'll be happy
to view your gallery and make a decision on your best fit for our group. Please don't go up a level until you and I decide that you are ready.

:bulletred: No Changing Levels From One Challenge To Another!  If you are not happy with a deviation, and still want to participate, please select NON-COMPETITIVE (follow instructions below
for Non-Competitive).

:bulletblue: Once you've uploaded to your art account, submit your deviation to ManipulateThis by selecting the group from the "Submit To Group" link on the right hand side of your original deviation.
Or, if the group name is not there, select "Type A Group Name" and add our name. Submit to the FEATURED folder.

:bulletblue: Your entry must be approved before it's placed into the FEATURED gallery. I always move from the FEATURED folder to the challenge/contest/activity folder, so don't worry about that.

Remember, deviations that are NOT for the challenge will be declined.

:bulletblue: You will receive a confirmation message at your art account if the entry was accepted or not. If it's not accepted within a reasonable amount of time, check your Correspondence
messages to see if you received a comment telling you why.

:bulletblue: Please take care of any problem as soon as possible and reply to the comment so that we can accept your entry.

:bulletred: Sometimes I'll send you a note from your deviation telling you that something needs to be altered before the end of the challenge. Your entry has NOT been removed from the
challenge in such cases.

:bulletred:IMPORTANT! If the above happens and you do not delete the original deviation from your gallery, please send a group note so that I know to remove the original entry.

WHAT TO DO WITH A "NON-COMPETITIVE" ENTRY

:bulletwhite: Please follow the requirements for the challenge even if you are not competing.

:bulletwhite: Please include the same information in the Comments box as noted above for Competitive Entries.

:bulletwhite: Very Clearly, Write "NON-COMPETITIVE CHALLENGE ENTRY".

That's it!

I am here to help. If you have any questions or need my help, don't hesitate to contact me.

I'll even be happy to look at your deviation before you submit to the group. Simply send a note to my art account. You can upload to your sta.sh account if you like. Send me either the sta.sh link or the link
of the original deviation in your gallery and I'll be happy to comment and help your privately before you submit.

Now do you very best in execution, and really create a fascinating entry! :D
