(Disclaimer: I, personally, do not mean ANY offense to Okami (The White Wolf) in this story, this is just in Storm's point of view and she's a brat of a mare bordering on bitch so XD She's got some opinions)

- Story (513 words) -

Storm was livid.

First of all, no one was going her speed. Every horse in front of her and behind her walked like they were pulling three other horses behind them. Then, there was the crowd. They were loud and annoying and someone even tried to touch her.

Her groom’s tight hold on her lead rope was the only reason that person didn’t lose a hand.

Storm knew it was race day. She knew it was a big race day too. So she wanted to move, she wanted to get into her zone. But she couldn’t not with the noise, not with every other horse dragging their hooves.

Finally, the Grumpy Human was hoisted onto her back. He patted her neck, and she let out a huge breath. This meant they’d be getting on the track soon, where she could finally move as fast as she wanted.

She first had to sit through the post parade, of course. She bit her pony’s neck twice in retaliation. Then, the pony broke away, and Grumpy Human sat up in his saddle.

Storm leapt into a canter and got as far away from the other competitors as possible. They were idiots, they were slow, and they were beneath her.

The Grumpy Human held back her speed, but not her stride. She stretched her legs, gobbling up the dirt with every stride. Inch by inch, she calmed down, releasing her tension through every breath.

Eventually, the Grumpy Human slowed her to a walk and led her onto the grass. It was dry underneath her hooves; perfect for gripping. She pawed at it just to make sure, getting a feel for what she’d be running on.

A white colt nearly ran into her. She pinned her ears back and charged at the moron, forcing him out of her space. How dare such a blinding nuisance touch her? How dare--?

“Easy there, princess,” said the Grumpy Human, leading her away from the other horses again. “You’ll get your shot at him in a bit.”

Storm snorted, but listened.

She was the first loaded into the gate. To her misfortune, the idiot colt that had touched her was stalled next to her.

Great.

She had her ears pinned on him the entire time, begging for him to start something. She was ready to defend herself this time. He wouldn’t be able to dodge her bite quick enough—

The gates sprang open.

Storm was a step too slow, distracted by her feud with the idiot. It didn’t matter. In two lunging strides, she was ahead of him, skimming the rail to snatch the lead from any other would be front runners. Another horse came to her shoulder, reaching for the lead position. But she pinned her ears back and he backed away.

‘As it should be,’ she thought proudly.

Now all she had to do was keep going as comfortably as she could, awaiting the Grumpy Human’s signal to go as fast as she could.

And, most importantly, go faster than the blindingly white idiot she was determined to beat.

The art looks lovely! You always do an incredible job with lighting and shading, you've painted a really beautiful picture here, and I am very thankful for the feature. Okami is stunning in your style

The story was a bit of a hurtful read though. I know you disclaimed that nothing is personal, but it made me sad for my boy. Okami is such a sweet boy, I wonder why she hates him and demeans his intelligence so much, especially since they share lineage. :( Mares gonna mare, or cousins gonna cousin, I guess.
