After some time off-deviantart due to my faculty duties, here I am again, with some work in progress.

Almost everything is already written in preview, but let's confirm some things again. :)

This is the basic DVD cover concept I have on my mind for upcoming Ubuntu 12.04 LTS edition. I jumped over 11.04 and 11.10 editions for simple reasons, and that is Unity. I didn't like it, I didn't use it, so I didn't find any motive to create covers for these two 2011 editions.

But since Ubuntu is again showing some stability and solidness with recent updates, I decided to create artwork for it again, as I hope 12.04 version will be solid enough. This is just a starting point. It might, and it might not look like final version, but I think the main shell is there.
Comparing to my previous covers I wanted this to be the most clean and the most effective one. And at the same time the most effect-less when it comes to layer effects. Even I didn't follow ubuntu brand guidelines strictly, there are enough elements to make this cover recognizable and ubuntuish.

Check it, and even I'm an egoistic asshole, if you have some suggestions, I might take them... :D

Cheers!

Much better. That was "Precisely" the change needed ........................... yea I'm not proud of that one..

Looks even better. :)

Now, what if you extended the small dot matrix and eliminated the white space bordering 12.04?

Just a thought. :)

Only the zero is good. :P This is for numbers, of course. Thw whole thing is so brilliant. Hope this cover -or similar- will be used with original CD/DVD.

Well my friend, it's not gonna be official in any way, as Canonical is publishing their own sleeves with every version.
This is just an alternative if you think Canonical sleeves are lifeless and unimaginative, as I do. And ofcourse if you want to pack your OS into DVD box, like all great software is packed.

Soo happy to see more of your works! Great job my friend!

Thank you my friend...
About font, I also find it very stylish, but it seems that noone else is loving it (if you talk about version number font).

Did you make it or find it?
Do you have link to that font?
the 4 does look a little wird, but still easy to tell its a 4, in my opinion. :)

No, it's not my font. I accidentally found it about a year ago, and it's called Chuck Chillout. You can find it here:

Neat !! :) The 4 looks a bit weird.. Or is it just me ?

Heh, you're not the only one who share that thoughts. :)
There are some other dot fonts I will experiment with, but I like this one so much. I will try to do something with number 4.

I think this font works, just need to cut the top off that 4.

I'm thinking the same way.

I'm considering adding right and left slide buttons like here:

Which applied on DVD cover will point to central area of DVD box edge, where you opet it, so it could be nice.

It looks good already, I wonder what the finished version will llook like :) Now if someone just made a good GTK theme with the same style...

Thanks... Heh, I doubt there will be a similar GTK theme, in this form of clearness and simplicity. But if you look closely, this already IS reminiscent of Ubuntu interface, and my goal was for it to be.
Mostly the installation user interface with top and bottom gray bars (with top one being bolder), and white underlying background like in software center or other Ubuntu apps. Thin orange load-bars and sliders are also reminiscent of Ubuntu interface.

Yeah, I can see, though I'd prefer Ambiance to look more like this :) I read on the forums some time ago though that 12.04 will bring some changes lookswise, dunno whether it's true or not.

Great work as always. Only thing that might bug some, is it kinda looks like 12.09 on the front cover.

Thanks, and about front version number, there are few dot fonts in considering, so we will see... This one seemed to be the most stylish to me.
