As a thank you for everyone's support i'm having a huge sale on my two anatomy books! Both books are 50% off so go buy your copy now!!!! Both books contain skeletal, muscle, and restored studies on dinosaurs and prehistoric animals. An Atlas of Dinosaur Anatomy contains 17 dinosaurs- 2 dinosaurs are only found in this book! An Atlas of Prehistoric Animal Anatomy contains 22 animals- and 6 animals are only found in this book! It also contains a never before seen study on the evolution of baleen whales! It will only be available in this book! Each animal is very detailed, as accurate as possible with the research of the time it was created, easy to read labels, and in color! I put a lot of time and hard work into these so I hope everyone enjoys.

I know the preview thumbnail looks a little dark, but trust me, it doesn't look like that in person and is high quality!

So if you missed my announcement on my velociraptor illustration I'll repost it here.  So one of my friends started a site called Pixery that's blowing up in popularity. They make shirts out of your artwork and designs and they're great quality (I have three shirts and they look great and feel comfortable). The thing that makes it awesome is the artist gets a percentage of the sale and the rest goes to a verified cause of the artists choice. So every time you buy a shirt from my store you not only get an awesome shirt that is high quality, you get to give back and do some good! I chose Visalia Feral Cat Coalition, which is a group I've been volunteering for years. It's a non profit organization that trap, neuter, and return feral cats to where we caught them. We also arrange people to feed the feral colony daily and make sure they're healthy, we even provide medical care if needed. It's great for the cats since they won't be reproducing, over populating the area, and it saves lives. Most feral cats are euthanized when an area gets overpopulated by ferals, it's heart breaking. But with TNR the cats can live out their lives in piece. It's also great for the local people because the cats stop fighting and spraying. We've saved many lives doing this and both the cats and locals are happy! So just think, every shirt you buy will save another cats life!

You can go to my store at this link: www.pixeryup.com/rushelle-kuca…

If you have any questions I'll do my best to answer them. I'm really excited about this new site and giving back to the world!

It's official, I got married October 15th! The wedding was so beautiful and went perfectly. All our family and friends were there and we had such a good time. The honeymoon was fantastic too, JJ and I rented a beach house for the week and it was so romantic and fun, we just got back yesterday! So yeah, if you were wondering why I haven't been active this past week that's why. I'm back now and expect some new art soon! Hands down this was the best and happiest week of my life! I'm so lucky to marry such a handsome and amazing man. <3

So i've been told numerous times that I should create a book with all my prehistoric animal anatomy studies, and I think it's a great idea. I'm thinking maybe 25+ animals, maybe some information on each one, and a skeletal, muscle, and restored study of each animal. Do any of you know a printing/binding/shipping site that works similar to sites like RedBubble or Society6? Where you design it, and when you make a sale they get it all made and shipped out and they get a percentage of what's made? I'm having no luck finding any site like that. There's a lot of book publishing sites, but a lot of them make you buy dozens of them at a time and are expensive. I'd really appreciate the help if you know any sites!

Well, Saturday is my last day at Academy of Art University, I earned my BFA in illustration! I'm excited I made it, but sad at the same time, I'll miss my school, the great critiques, my instructors, and my friends. Luckily I'm friends with a lot of them through Facebook and Deviantart, but i'll still miss the classes. Anyway, expect more drawings in the next couple of days, I have about 6 that I have yet to upload.

Now to go and get my Mara Jade cosplay ready for Star Wars: The Force Awakens tomorrow! I know she's not going to be in the movie, but she's one of my favorite characters, lol.

Sorry for the lack of updates, I've been SUPER busy with my last semester before graduation, I'm hoping to find time to soon to post my new artwork. Keep your eyes open for some new prehistoric animal art and fantasy art (including some dragons ;) ). This weekend has been pretty eventful for me, spent the weekend in LA with my boyfriend and friends, and on Saturday we spent the day in Disneyland (which was a blast). But the best thing of all is my boyfriend got down on one knee and proposed to me in front of Cinderella's castle. I had no idea he was going to do that! I said yes of course and have been floating since! It was one of the best days of my life. Haven't set a wedding date yet, but we'll figure that out. Now on top of starting my professional art career I need to plan a wedding! I have never been this happy and excited about my future!

This was my grandmas ring, which means so much to me because I love my grandma and I love this ring. Makes it even more special, I wish she was here to celebrate with us, but I'm sure she is in heaven.

I just wanted to say thank you everyone who wished me a happy birthday, I feel truly loved! I had a great bday, got a couple of new books, got to go out and eat, saw Mad Max: Fury Road (which I freaking loved, probably the best movie I've seen all year, seriously go see it!), and cuddled with my boyfriend while watching Game of Thrones. So it was a great day!

For those of you who haven't already heard, I'll be having surgery done on my shoulder next week. The pain has gotten worse and worse even though the break in my humerus is healed. So last week I had a MRI with contrast done and turns out I have a torn rotator cuff, tissue damage, and bone fragments. So I'll have to have surgery and get all that fixed. Luckily. it's all going to be done laparoscopically, so I'll be back on my feet within days. I'm actually excited that the doctors finally figured out why I'm in such extreme pain and that I'm going to get it fixed next week. These last four months have just been troublesome and extremely painful. I'm glad I won't be down very long either, I'm in the middle of a semester and I refuse to drop out or get behind. From what I can tell though it won't be a problem, I should be able to draw with little pain or trouble. Well, I'll try and keep you guys updated and hopefully I'll have some time to post some new art soon!

Hey everyone! How are you all doing? I hope good! It's been a while since I made a journal entry. Things are going pretty good here, I start my next semester back at Academy of Art University this coming Monday so I'm excited. It shouldn't be as busy as last semester (I was sort of insane and stupid for taking those challenging and time consuming classes all at once, lol), so hopefully I'll still be active here while I'm doing school. I'm going to be taking Clothed Figure Drawing 3, Intro to Science Illustration (super excited and curious about this class), Illustration 3: Interactive and Vector Art (I'm a little scared since I never done vector art, but thanks God my boyfriend is amazing at Illustrator and vector art and is excited to help me!), and Digital Media 3: Digital Painting. I'm super excited that I'm getting to do more digital art this semester and I'm really eager to learn and improve. The only thing I'm considered about is my arm that I broke in October still is giving me a lot of pain. It's actually been a lot worse this last week. I had it checked out yesterday and the doctor said the break in my humerus is healing great, but it's probably the nerves or even a small muscle tear that is causing the extreme pain. They gave my a cortisone shot in my shoulder and some anti inflammatory meds and hopefully it'll stop the pain. I probably wont be able to work on my easel again this semester since it's still painful to lift my arm above my chest, luckily my instructors have been super cool and understanding and will be okay with me working on a flat surface. Other than that I can't wait to get back into being buried in school work, lol.

Oh yeah, another cool thing since my last update, I've been hired by :icontea-rexx: to do dinosaur skeleton reconstructions for his game Prehistoric Preserve. I get to draw the top and side views of each skeleton and It's been a blast working for him. I already posted the Spinosaurus I did for him about a month ago and you'll be seeing more dinosaurs soon!

Sorry for the inactivity here, I've been insanely busy the last couple of months. Mainly due to school, I'm doing on average 8 to 12 hours of school work a day so it leaves me very little free time. I'm learning a lot though and improving so i'm pleased with that. I also been running back and forth to the doctor a lot this last two weeks because I fractured my right humerus bone. If you haven't already heard, I was at a Halloween themed skating session at a local roller rink and while I was skating fast a kid blindsided me and ran right into me, causing me to fall really hard on my right arm causing a fracture on my humerus bone. I also have swollen tissue and fluid built up in the socket joint, so I'm unable to lift my arm past my chest. I've had a couple of broken bones in my life but hands down this is the most painful. Luckily, no tissue is torn so I don't need surgery, and I can still draw, I just can't work on my easel. Still makes drawing painful at times if I move my arm in the wrong way, but I have no choice but to tough it out. So yeah, pretty crazy couple of weeks. I'm hoping school work will start to slow down so I'll be able to post all my new art work. As soon as I have some free time I'll post them, until then you'll have to wait. Thanks everyone for being patient. <3

I just wanted to let everyone know that school started today and I'm going to be super busy this semester. So if I'm not as active as usual that's probably why. I'm taking Clothed Figure drawing 2, Illustration 2, Advanced Perspective, and Power of Myth and Symbols. It's a huge workload, but I'm looking forward o learning and improving. I'll try and post new art as much as I can, but we'll see. At least by the end of the semester I'll have all sorts of new work to post!

Hey everyone! Just thought I'd post a quick update. So I finally have free time now that the semesters over. This last semester was insanely busy, but a lot of fun. Took a human figure oil painting class which was really challenging since I never used oil paints before. I still prefer digital painting, but it was fun and I learned a lot. Also took a Into to Illustration, Designing Career, and The History of Illustration (20th Century). They were all a blast, I especially liked History of Illustration. I never thought I'd ever enjoy a art history class, lol! Anyway, It's nice to finally have time to work on my own projects and to relax a little bit before I start Summer school in mid June. I don't think i'll be too busy like last semester, so you'll be seeing a lot more of my art.

So I saw the new Godzilla movie last week. Before I saw it I was really excited, but a little worried that it'll be too much like the 1998. Boy, did it not disappoint! Hands down the best movie I've seen all year. I grew up watching the classic Godzilla movies, and this new film felt like those classic films (without the overly cheesiness), I felt like a kid again! If you love Godzilla (especially the old Godzilla films) then totally go see it. It was so refreshing, especially after seeing a really horrible film before it *Cough* Bad Neighbors *Cough*

Oh yeah, my birthday is this Sunday, I'm going to be 24. Man time flies, it feels like I only turned 23 like a year ago, lol.

Anyways, I hope everyone else is doing fantastic. Keep on drawing!

Even though I still have this week left in this semester, I'm pretty much done! I actually have free time now... so weird having time now to work on my own art...  lol, I have a lot of drawings I started and have yet to finish. Hopefully you guys can see a improvement in my upcoming work. I seriously learned a LOT from this last semester, and I can't wait to apply what I've learned into my own art. So expect art from me soon!

Anyway, I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Update 10/24/13

Journal Entry: Thu Oct 24, 2013, 11:36 AM

I feel bad for not updating a whole lot yet again! I've been VERY busy this semester and have hardly any time to work on my art outside of school or upload anything. Between my storyboarding, Intro to Animal Anatomy, Still Life Painting, and Face and Head class I have hardly any free time. So sorry for the lack of activity, I just wanted to let you guys know I'm still alive and still drawing like a mad woman. I promise as soon as I find free time I'll post stuff and work on more personal work.

So last night  I went to the theaters to see the latest Edgar Wright film "The Worlds End"... I haven't laughed that hard at a comedy in a long time. It was freaking hilarious and at some points very moving. I'm a huge Edgar Wright fan, and hands down this is my favorite out of the Cornetto trilogy (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The Worlds End). I went with my boyfriend and a couple friends and they too absolutely loved it.  I can't think of anything else to say without giving spoilers, so just go see it. If you love Edgar Wright humor you'll love this, if you don't... I can honestly say you still might like this. It's a good scifi movie as it is a comedy. So seriously, check this movie out, it's worth seeing in theaters.

Well I better boo-boo (Yes, I'm so using that word now) and get back to drawing. Go see it!

Critiquing

Journal Entry: Wed Aug 7, 2013, 11:53 PM
  • Listening to: My Song Knows What you Did in the Dark- FOB
  • Reading: Stories by Junji Ito
  • Watching: Rifftrax shorts
  • Playing: Pokemon Leaf Green

I felt the need to make a journal post about critiquing, because as of late I've been seeing artists taking critiquing as a negative and offensive thing. One rather popular artist on DA made a long journal ranting about people critiquing him and a bunch of young artists were agreeing with him saying how they hate critiques. Now I totally get why people get their feelings hurt and get all defensive, art can be personal and when someone doesn't give praise for it and says something looks wrong it can hurt. However, if you seriously want to improve and work in the art field I guarantee you constant praise and zero critiques is going to get you nowhere. Critiques are not to attack on you or your art, it's someone else giving you a fresh look at your drawing and telling you how to improve it so you don't make that mistake again. It's good for artists to support and teach one another. It saddens me when I see an artist who has potential, but they refuse to listen to any feedback and make the same mistakes over, and over, and over, and over again. Be open to learning! Listen to what others have to say, and don't take it so personal. Some days someone might hurt your feelings, but just remember, they are trying to help you.

I'll be the first to admit years ago I used to have my moments where I've gotten mad at someone for giving a heavy critique (I facepalm at myself every time I see those old comments on here). I would either get my feelings hurt or I'd get on the offense. (I blame the red hair for my tempter, lol)  Looking back now after all these years and I feel like I was being a immature brat, I never realized they were trying to help me, not pick on me. I wanted to improve so badly, but I was too busy getting butthurt over critiques rather than accepting it and trying to improve. Once I started accepting critiques I started learning so much and started to really improve. If you seriously want to improve then my advice is ask for critiquing, study what you need to improve on, practice, and try better on your next drawing and repeat the steps. Also, don't get offended when someone only gives a critique and no "praise", that doesn't mean you did nothing right so they didn't mention it. Some critiques only spend time on what you need to work on because the critique is going to help you improve, them telling you what they liked isn't going to help all to much. I go to Academy of Art University and some classes we're encouraged to give nothing but the critique! So just take it as the things the critic didn't point out he probably liked or thought was fine as is. Anyways, I hope some of you find this useful in any way.

You stay classy, Deviantart~

I just wanted to thank everyone for all their sweet birthday wishes, I'm grateful for each and everyone of you! I had a wonderful birthday, I got a new recurve bow that has a 30 draw weight and is almost as tall as me. The things a beast and shoots beautifully, so I'm really happy. Also got new arrows, a target, a new ring from my love, and the Hunger Game series in book form. So it's been a pretty fun weekend.

So my boyfriend :iconjjfrygraphicarts: has brought back his Deviantart account back from the dead by cleaning out his old work and uploaded his new art, Maya creations, and awesome photography (including pictures of me, lol). Check it out, he's really talented. :)

Also, since you guys have waited so patiently for art from me these past few months that I wasn't able to post due to my busy school schedule, I'm going to be doing three drawings that I think you guys will greatly enjoy. (HINT, it involves Pokemon) Stay tuned.
