+ Girl With A Flute + by ~TheBlueLummox was not what was originally recommended to me for this artist, but once again, was one of those cases where it led me to dig around deeper and find something that truly captured the eye. ( Suggested by EveShifter and Featured by zeruch )

To all the flute critics: those not familiar with Asian flutes may not realize that there are countless end-blown flutes including the xiao, shakuhachi, and suli. In South America there is the qena and qenacho. There are far more than mentioned here. The Asian flute depicted here is similar to the Chinese xiao. It appears to be baboo with a red decorative cord. However, that is not important for any reason than to put the subject in a tranquil setting.
To the artist: I am impressed at how the flowers complement the folds of the girl's dress. The arrangement reminds me of formal Eastern European portraits, but there is also something a little haunting. The dominant color is a little off white, and the girl has very thin fingers. The flute contrasts nicely as if it the source of life for the girl.

Um, as a flutist, if you are trying to draw a chinese flute, no offense but the positioning and the embouche is WEIRD. Isn't it supposed to be held at a 45 degree angle, not like a recorder? She shouldn't be resting it on her knee, this damages a little of the quality of the sound. And it looks like a shrivelled sugar cane. Again, no offence, but overall, nice shadowing, I like her emotions, and the flowers seem...surreal. I can't paint like that even if my lifedepended on it.

Correction: I'm not a flutist. I'm a flute player. Heh.

Not to be an immature jerk, because I like this painting alot, I can't help but think that someone will post a reply to this painting saying: "One time at band camp...".

Someone had to volunteer to get that out of everyone's system.

This seems almost like something Frida Kahlo would do.

Wonderful, anywho.

Beautiful colors, especially the background with the brush strokes.

This is by far the best piece in your gallery. It really deserves the DD. It's almost reminiscent of early Vermeer. The folds are fantastic.

Though I would recommend working from back to front. The objects in the background tend to flatten out, and the background comes foward, since it goes around the head and not behind it.

The proportions and perspective are terribly off and many places are very flat. Did you have a model or refference?

Ya know, if this was done a hundred years ago and you had a funny name, it would be in a museum and worth a lot of money. As it is, nowadays, art success seems to me a matter of fashion, luck and sleeping around.

Thank God for Deviantart. The Tate Modern sucked.
