*I no longer use or will provide support for this neat little geeklet. Yahoo.com has changed some of the coding on their site that have messed with the way the script in this geeklet works and I don't know how to fix it.*

This is a step-by-step guide showing you how to display custom weather images using geektool on OS X

Big thanks to Robert Wünsch for creating these icons! [link]

Install instruction are inside the .zip

Hey man I love your work with this. It seems to be the only weather image script I can get going. Seem to have hit a problem because it doesn't change the temp pic when the weather changes. Error message when I run the script on Applescript editor says:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/Users/***/Documents/Customize/GeekTool/Weather/Weather.py", line 26, in <module>
dom = parse("/tmp/yahooweather.xml")
File "/System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.7/lib/python2.7/xml/dom/minidom.py", line 1914, in parse
File "/System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.7/lib/python2.7/xml/dom/expatbuilder.py", line 924, in parse
File "/System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.7/lib/python2.7/xml/dom/expatbuilder.py", line 207, in parseFile
xml.parsers.expat.ExpatError: not well-formed (invalid token): line 8, column 181.

(obviously i changed the *** to my username) I'm a bit of a noob at scripting so I wouldn't have a clue what this means but I seem to have followed the instructions. Do you have any idea of what's going wrong or how I can fix it? Cheers

I'm sort of confused... I did what the instructions said, and I checked everything over a couple of times, and it didn't work. Is the image in Geektool supposed to be set to the WeatherIcon.png in the temp folder? It's just the picture for "cloudy," so Geektool is only displaying that and not the actual weather. The other shell (for WeatherIcon.scpt) failed (I set it to display status feedback image, and it is red.) Is it supposed to be that way? I'm kind of confused because the weather really isn't cloudy. Thanks!

Having trouble with the information showing up, the image showed up easily.

That is because of a change on Yahoo! Weather's part. I have no idea how to fix it. But the weather information isn't what this release was intended for. It's more just for the weather image. For weather information, try searching for more up to date weather geeklets on Google.

Hi!
I hate to be another Pain with the same problems you've been so amazingly kind to help everyone who's experiences the same issue I'm also having at the moment.

The script and instructions are really clear, probably the most direct instructions for displaying a weather widget on your desktop I've run across.

However I'm having all the same problems perviously mentioned in the thread. Most of which I've been able to correct myself and though I feel like I've done everything to the letter I can't figure out why my the weather still will not come up? The Geektool Icon that Displays the weather graphic just plays the png files like a slidshow and no actual useful information.

If you wouldn't mind helping me out I would be so grateful, I can PM you my location and Username?

Thank you ^.^

Sorry, I haven't used this weather setup in geektool for a while. Ever since getting myself an iPhone, I just check the weather on there lol. Everything I know how to do is explained in the instructions. The way Yahoo handles the weather website might have changed and that could be causing the scripts not to work. But I can't really help that.

Okay, thank's anyway :)

Maybe my preview is misleading, but as the title suggests, the download only contains the "geektool weather icon." Nothing else.

Sorry, it appears that the RSS link is only on the US version of the Yahoo Weather site.
