As Star Dancer says, this will make even less sense when you find out what the context is.

Bonus marks is you can guess what the theme of her cosplay is.

I was going to say Fortress Maximus or Kantai Collection, but having read some comments, I can see I was wrong. Oh well.

Macross/Robotech the SDF1 both were the same just one was americanised, one of my favorite anime and what started me watching them. I never could understand the logic of why it had to transform to use it's main weapons.

When they tried to run from the alien forces, their space fold engines massively overshot the target destination and then vanished to points unknown. This left a big gap in the wiring between the main weapons and the power plant that they couldn't replace out of scavenged materials. Transforming allows them to solve that issue.

Hmmm, well, technically, Robotech was three unrelated Anime that were edited together in order to make it seem like they were one show, and the story was heavily changed in places.

For example, they the second season of Robotech was supposed to be set on a post apocalyptic Earth after the Zentradi bombardment, but the original Anime was actually about human colonists who settled on somebody else's world. The aliens attacking them were the original inhabitants who were returning after a war destroyed the environment and made it unlivable. And the alien soldiers weren't robots, they were human colonists who had been mind controlled. So every-time the characters destroyed an enemy mech they were really killing a fellow colonist.

The planet in the original Anime had two moons, but they cut and repainted the backgrounds to take them out.

A lot of the story and the character backgrounds were changed as well to make them more suited to western tastes.

Robotech?

You mean Macross, right?

Nah, Robotech was theree unrelated Anime that were cut and pasted together to make one long series. They significantly changed the story in a lot of places.

I'm not sure about that, the bridge section doesn't line up with what we see here.

But seeing enough of PerfectBlue's art and journal post's would make me think otherwise.
