By: Christina Kubick There was a country where everyone was pressured into drinking red Kool-Aid. This was not ordinary Kool-Aid; it was laced with toxic chemicals. Any consumer safety tests were rushed and shoddy. Yet the toxic drink was advertised on every public platform: television, posters, billboards, radio, store PSAs, and so on. Tables were lined up with shot-sized, disposable paper cups of this toxic Kool-Aid. People were encouraged to drink one of these, often for free, as they went about their daily business. Those who drank it were known as the Kool-Aid Drinkers, and they were encouraged to drink it once more. One girl, Christy, refused to drink the Kool-Aid, despite pressure from family and friends who had done so. Christy knew the harm this toxic substance could do. Thousands of people died. Others had brain damage. Still, others became infertile. More had weakened immunity. Yet these affected people didn’t have recourse, for their voices were dismissed
