CAPITAL CITY, SARASALAND - With the blessing of clear skies and plenty of sunshine, yesterday's celebration of the annual Dia de Sarasaland brough joy to the nation's citizenry. With festivities throughout the kingdom, her Majesty Princess Daisy parading through the streets of the capital city and a grand formal ball at the royal palace including a spectacle of fireworks for all to see, Sarasaland celebrates its independence and honours the princess who is seen as the uniter of the various tribes of Shy Guys. Notable honored guests at the ball were princess Peach of the bordering Mushroom Kingdom, the famed Mario brothers, and friend and overseer of the comet observatory, miss Rosalina. No notable incidents were reported, and the national celebration committee extends its grattitude to all the Shy Guys who tirelessly worked to make yesterday's festivities a success.
A little mock-up article to reflect the general story behind this deviation. I've been toying with the idea that like Peach and her Toad minions, and Rosalina and her Lumas, Daisy ends up being the de facto royalty for the Shy Guys. Nintendo has been putting them forward as a more friendly species and I personally think it's just plain cute. With inspiration from Daisy Circuit from Mario Kart Wii, which is depicted as being the current site of her palace, I wanted to create a busy scene where Daisy parades through a street full of cheering Shy Guys, much like the bombastic parades you see in places like Brazil.
Started out as a fairly simple sketch but I kept rendering it until it got to the result you see now.
Though it's perfectly okay to have personal preferences as to whether Shy Guys make good Daisy-minions (it's opinion, after all), my idea of Shy Guys being Daisy-minions has some reasoning behind it;
- Shy Guys are very numerous, like toads and lumas. - Shy Guys are shown to have an affinity for both flowers and desserts, both things associated with Daisy - Shy Guys are industrious (particularly when it comes to mining operations), which goes well with Daisy's generally energetic personality. - The "default" colour of Shy Guys is red, which goes well with Daisy's warm colours in her colour scheme.
Of course, just reasoning on my part. The biggest thing going against all of this is that Shy Guys are exclusively villains in any of the mainline Mario games.
Only problem is it's tough to tell if they're actually thrilled to see you or not, thanks to those masks they've always got on. Not to mention that the local constabulary refuses to let Snifits anywhere near the parade route for security reasons.
