Flexible Jewelry with Premo

If you would like to share this on tumblr please ask me first, thank you.

New tutorial! I've been wanting to do this for a while but kept putting it off. I chose to do Colette's thingers for this because I'm replaying that game right now and I find them aesthetically pleasing. I basically used the same technique on… .

Additional tips!~
1. Proper X-Acto handling skills are very important to the appearance of your final product. If you're not experienced with craft knives practice cutting pictures and letters out of magazines without cutting the page below. It can be done!
2. This is easier if you do everything on parchment paper, they were out when I went to the store so I had to make do.
3. Translucent Premo isn't as flexible as normal Premo. Personally I would stick to using just white and painting it.

Oh yeah, fun story from while I was doing this. The electricity went out after I finished the steps on the left side. So there I am, it's 2AM, pitch black apartment, unbaked clay on the coffee table in a room with 2 hyper cats. That is how the Universe tells you to go to bed and stop working on cosplay crap.

I'll think of more stuff to say later. Don't be afraid to ask me questions!

This is great! I love the translucent premo clay, I used it to make my brother's Grell Sutcliff teeth.

Do you think I could also do this with Fimo polymer clay? I've got quite some leftovers from an experiment and I'd love to try this out X_X

So, if you bake the clay and let it cool, it will be flexible?
TheAnna's avatar
Yep, you can see me bending it in the second to last picture.

What kind of gold paint did you use?
TheAnna's avatar
Modern Masters metallic collection in ME701 Rich Gold. I got it from the paint store my Mom works at but they have a physical location locator on their site… .

I'll make sure to show you my finished product! Using it for Morgiana from Magi's dancer outfit, her jewelry pieces. Thanks soo much for posting this! I was very stuck on how to go about making tight forming jewelry.

Awesome thank you!~ Also you're welcome, I'm happy people are using Premo more now, it's pretty great stuff.

Maybe my english is bad.. but in the end it's isn't flexible any more, right? Just in the "still beeing hot"-phase, right?
TheAnna's avatar
It's still flexible after cooling. The Heat setting phase is mainly to ensure that it will take the shape that you want it to be in when you put it on. Does that make sense?

[link] When you say premo, is this the kind of clay you're talking about?
TheAnna's avatar
Yes, I would recommend buying white though.

This is a great tutorial! Colette was on my cosplay list, so if someday I get to cosplay her, I'll have this for reference.

This is so cool! :la: I didn't even know there was such a thing as flexible clay! And this tutorial is great! :D

Now I need to find a cosplay that requires form-fitting jewelry. :paranoid:

This... I love you for making this. I'm helping a friend of mine with a Colette cosplay and have been completely STUCK on how to make her Cruxis crystal. I've never heard of the stuff you used, but am most definitely going to give it a try.

Happy to help!~ It's in most craft stores. Premo is a Sculpey product so you will typically find it next to the Sculpey.

Your necklace/choker looks so awesome! :D
About how flexible is this Premo stuff? Considering it's going around your neck, it would have to stretch a good bit, no?
TheAnna's avatar
It's very flexible as you can see in one of the last pictures. I can completely curl the ends on the necklace in and they will just slowly go back to the original shape when I let go. The clay does not stretch. It doesn't have stretch at all to fit my neck, I made it long enough for that.

Amazing tutorial! I need to make a choker-like necklace and I wasn't sure how to go about making it. ^_^
