Chapter 1: Origins of an Unlikely Llama...
Far, far away on a planet, many light years from here, a young llama like creature murdered his parents in a dark alleyway. Apparently he was not a fan of their taste in opera. For his crime, he was banished to a butthole blue planet called Earth. Also his home planet blew up and everyone died.
Shortly upon arriving on Earth he was bitten by a radioactive gibbon, and from that day on he would be known as the llama with a bad rash on his left leg. While being treated for his injury, he was accidentally given a bad batch of blood belonging to a really pissed off green physicist, who clearly abused steroids. Disgusted with the service he was getting, the llama left, but before he could make it out of the car park, a passing truck accidentally dumped a vat of toxic waste all over him. Once the glowing subsided, he was given a clean bill of health, of which he had to pay within 24 hours. Faced w
Some perspective on 'core membership'
I know this is probably gonna be a long journal, but if you manage to read all the way through the end you might perhaps even get to learn a few things.
Furthermore I want to state that my opinion on the matter is pretty much neutral. I'm not with DeviantArt on the matter, nor am I against them. I just want to make people see things from the perspective of a 27 year old woman that has been in the web industry for the last decade.
The internet is not free
First of all, and most important thing to realize, is that the internet is not free. Everyone who lived through the early ages of web 1.0. (old people like me) knows that it costs money to run a website. Back in the day user content wasn't a thing. What's this about?
We want to challenge you to think a little outside the box. Most artists have a comfort-zone and create their art within this. What would happen if you would create the completely opposite, too?
For example: An artist likes to create fan art with epic fighting scenes from movies or books. What would happen if he was challenged to create his own character reading a book? Or a writer who likes to do horror-stories which now has to write a fairy-tale?
You see, we want opposites. We want to see polarities.
Opposites belong to the world and to a good story. Create opposites. They don't have to be so extreme like the ones we described, but we want to notice them.
Examples? No problem:
