[Assassin's Creed Themed story]
"Damn it, (y/n)! Focus, amore (love)!" The temperamental Italian told the female next to him, who was constantly spacing out.
"Sorry, Romano.'' she said, while she handed him a bag of their groceries.
"C'mon let's go home, carina (sweetheart). I bet you're tired" Romano planted a quick kiss on her shoulder.
It was a lovely day. The generous sun was coloring the sky with golden beams of light. Gentle gusts of wind occasionally blew, inviting the trees to move along to the invisible music the historical city of Rome was composing. Despite the warm and relaxing weather, an odd intension was filling the atmosphere of the crowdie streets.
"PLEASE, LET ME GO!!" A voice frantically cried.
It was a boy not older than 8 years old, desperately trying to kick his way out of a Borgia's hands
"You sneaky little thief..." the guard hissed.
A gang of them had captured the boy as he was accused of stealing a loaf of bread from a bakery.
Plenty of people that witnessed the scene were either passively watching or passing by, ignoring the incident with terror transforming their faces.
"You have to help the boy, Romano!" (y/n) begged her lover.
"Are you crazy? You want us to get killed?"
(y/n) turned her heels in order to help the poor boy.
"Where do you think you're going?" Romano's hand stabilized her immediately.
"Since you're not willing to help him, I'm going to do it myself."
Romano tried to drag her back home, but (y/n) stubbornly liberated herself.
"(y/n)!! Come back!!" Her fiancé's cursing mixed with the sound of her rushing footsteps echoed through her banging from the adrenaline head. "(y/n), you're in big trouble..." Romano muttered as he started picking up the groceries she had drop, before heading to the opposite direction of where the girl had gone.
(y/n) was easily weaving her way via the large group of people.
"LET ME GO!" The child begged.
"SHUT UP!!!" One of the guards raised his hand to slap the boy.
"Stop!" (y/n) fiercely declared and caught the man's arm, preventing him to harm the boy.
Her action caused everyone to look at her, including a pair of eyes that nobody knew was there.
The man pushed her and knocked her down, gesturing the rest of the gang to approach.
"Well well... What do we got here?" the first one lustfully smirked.
Despite the shudder that run down her spine once she heard the tone of the guard's voice, she managed to stay calm. The boy ran behind her and cling on her (f/c) skirt with his tiny hands.
"Are you a brave girl or what?" the man taunted.
"Go home and be safe" (y/n) whispered to the child, that obediently left.
Some of the men took a step, ready to catch the little thief when their leader stopped them with a flinch of his head.
" We have a far more interesting case here..." he grinned.
(y/n) could feel a knot forming on her throat as two of them captured her. She instinctively made an attempt to kick her way out, but failed.
"E questo e il fiore del rivoluzione... (And this is the flower of the revolution...) the same guard as earlier stated.
He grabbed a hold of her jaw and caressed her cheek. He thoroughly admired her features and a lecherous smirk took over his face.
"o che bel fiore... (What a beautiful flower...)"
The old man melodramatically and lifelessly dropped his palm, giving the girl a smile full of pity.
"morto per la liberta (dead for the freedom)"
(y/n) averted her eyes, feeling sick even looking at the abrasive man.
"This girl's punishment." he announced to the crowd that was hanging onto his every word. "Will be a chance to show you, how we really handle-..."
The Borgia's sentence was suddenly interrupted by the almost insignificant sound of blades being extended . The guard turned around only to witness a terrific for him action.
Blood spurted from the guards' necks as the figure in white appeared.
The mysterious man had jumped from a nearby rooftop and killed the two guards that held the girl at spot.
"An Assassin!" the crowd cheered.
Even though most of the guards made a despaired attempt to knock him down, the assassin skillfully avoided their attacks.
Nobody could make out his face under his hood, but everyone saw when he flinched his head as a sign for the guards to get away from the scene.
Then he walked towards the girl, but noticed someone else moving behind her.
"Watch out!!" The assassin embraced (y/n) to protect her from the guard.
The guard's knife, scratched the arm of the assassin. (y/n) could smell the blood that run down both his arm and fingers and soiled his white uniform. The unknown assassin groaned in pain.
He knocked the other male down and the guard crawled away in a helpless condition.
The fight was over.
(y/n) looked at his arm to see a badly bleeding gash on it.
"Let me help you with your woun-"
The assassin disappeared before (y/n) could actually finish her sentence or thank him.
She stood there in awe for quite a lot, unable to process what had happened.
However, It was about time she went home...
"Welcome home, Zorro!" Romano sarcastically greeted her once she stepped inside the house.
He was in the kitchen preparing their meal.
Without saying a word, the girl gave him an angry stare and headed upstairs to where their shared room was.
"Did you f*cking get hurt or something??" Romano monotonously asked, ignoring her previous reaction.
"If you had been there, you would have known." (y/n) coldly answered , standing in the middle of the stairs.
"Even If I were there, I could do nothing to help you, stupida.'' The male raggedly said.
"You didn't even care Romano. You just left when I needed you. What kind of man does that?"
"The-a clever and practical one"
"What? Are you serious?" she exclaimed full of fury."You're nothing like him..." she stated " The assassin who saved me... "
" ... "
Romano smirked. "Oh! You've got a new flirt or what?" he bitterly laughed.
"Stop it, Romano! If it wasn't for him, I'd have been imprisoned or raped at the moment."
"These would have been the consequences of your reckless behavior..."
"What if that boy was our own child?"
"It wasn't (y/n), so I don't care. As simple as that."
A tear streamed down her cheek. "Coward... That's what you really are. How can you be such a heartless beast?"
Romano looked on the ground beneath him.
"Call it as you like. I don't give a d*mn about your opinion, ragazza (girl).'' he emotionlessly answered.
(y/n) closed the door of their bedroom with a loud bang, leaving Romano alone.
"It's for your own good, (y/n)" the male muttered.
A few seconds later, a third pair of footsteps was heard approaching the kitchen.
"Fratello (brother), how is your arm?" Feliciano worriedly asked and placed the bandages on the kitchen table.
"It hurts damn it! Did you hide my robes and my blades?"
Feliciano just nodded in reply and sank a piece of fabric in clear water.
"You look pale. Do you feel dizzy?''
"A little bit, Feliciano"
"This is going to hurt..."
He gently placed the soaked fabric in Romano's wound.
Romano clenched his teeth in order to prevent any screams of pain coming out his mouth.
"(y/n) is already fast asleep. I checked on her when I came in"
"Yes Feliciano, I know. I was the one who advised you to get in from the balcony..."
"But how did you know that (y/n) was going to be asleep?"
"She's taking long siestas on a regular basis, lately..."
Feliciano dabbed the wound and Romano writhed in pain.
"By the way, brava, fratello! You were very brave back there! Grazie Dio (Thank God) you're both ok." The bubbly Italian smiled at his brother.
Romano on the other hand, was just sitting in silence with a puzzled look on his face.
"I don't understand, fratello" Feliciano whispered, gaining his brother's attention back "why don't you tell (y/n) that you're an assassin? (y/n) admires us and respects the brotherhood a lot. I mean... You shouldn't hide things from her. You're going to get married in a few months and..."
"If I disclose her the truth, Feliciano" Romano serenely answered "(y/n) will want to join the brotherhood, as well. Not to mention that a dead assassin is worth a lot..."
"So... you don't want her to be an assassin like you?"
"No, Feliciano. That's not it... These sneaky bastards will do anything to anyone in order to divulge crucial info about the brotherhood. (y/n) will be in danger, even knowing my identity. I don't want her to get hurt or... die! I c-can't imagine my life without her. If this happens... I'm afraid... I'm afraid I won't be able to protect neither (y/n) nor..."
"Nor who, Romano?"
A faint but yet remarkable smile cracked on said male's lips.
"Dio mio! (my God!) Am I going to be a zio (uncle)!? "Feliciano cheered
"Shhh bastardo! We don't want (y/n) to wake up..."
Conspicuously touched by the moment, Feli hugged and kissed both Romano's cheeks.
"Fratello, these are some wonderful news!"
"C'mon Romano, you'll be a great father!"
"Of course! Now, stand still so I can treat your wounds."
The two males said nothing for a while, until a terrible thought crossed Romano's mind.
"If anything happens to me... Will you...?"
"Your wife can take care on her own, Romano. She's strong enough and she deserves to know the truth. "
Romano was looking at his brother, his eyes simmering decisively. "We work in the dark to serve the light, fratellino (little brother)... It's better for her to stay out of this... at least for now..."
Feliciano sighed "As you wish, fratello. As you wish..."
