120 - Platform #3 by The-Dark-Sheep 120 - Platform #3 by The-Dark-Sheep
The final of three illustrations.

We were quite surprised to see our entry for 120hours [link] make it to the honorable mentions when the competition was judged earlier this winter. The project was even displayed as part of the final exhibition at DogA. 120 is an annual architecture competition arranged by students, for students. This year I teamed up with a couple of good friends to work on an entry:

This is what we came up with; an abandoned oil rig placed in the middle of one of Norway's most beautiful natural attractions, Geirangerfjorden, acts as a cruise ship terminal. We aimed for a stark contrast between the harsh, ex-polluting architecture of the disused oil rig and the serene, natural beauty of the deep fjord. The installation is easy to dismiss as an industrial eyesore, but the rig is in fact very much an eco-friendly solution - The oil industry has poured lots of resources into appeasing environmentalists, so the platforms themselves poses virtually no threat to the environment. Only a functioning platform pollutes, and with ours being closed down we believe we are able to present a solution far superior to the current situation.

Thanks for reading :]
