Tracing IS legal. Sort of.Don't get your panties in a knot.
We all hear the tooting of angry horns around here about the recent "defining" of traced artwork on dA. Some of you reading this right now are probably groaning in your chair about how much this is "blasphemy" and "contradictory to the spirit of artwork and community" and blah blah blah.
fourteenthstar mentioned that they have a lawyer. A very good lawyer. And that this lawyer had gone over, in depth, the issue of tracing and told them that it was perfectly legal for users to upload traced artwork to dA. So I did some sleuthing of my own on copyright laws, their protections, and violations to find out what was true and what was hearsay. Here's a tidbit of what I found:
While copyright law makes it technically illegal to reproduce almost any new creative work (other than under fair use) without permission, if the work is unregistered and has no real commercial value, it gets very little protection. The author in this case can sue for an injunction again
How to earn points:faq279:
Yeah. My articles are based off of FAQs But I've had a lot of people ask me this so I'm gonna try my best to answer it. I won't guarantee that you'll be a multi-millionaire and able to swim in a pool of points but I can help you earn some.
For starters, I have to tell you what points are! You can't earn them if you don't know what they are.
To me, points are the currency of dA but they are worthless unless they were earned using the commissions widget, which I will talk about later in this article. But having a lot of it can be good and bad in a way.
Let me start you off with the bad
People will ask you for it! (Not that giving is a bad thing but once you get a page full of comments asking "points plz" you'll wish you've never had any of those wretched things. )
Now for the good
Giving points to people can make then happy!

Sharing art with the world.Decided to make this journal into news So maybe more people can see this and get something out of it ^^ And im to lazy to make the text longer xD Heres the link to my journal http://griffsnuff.deviantart.com/journal/38852920/
Theres been one issue that ive had
across my mind for a long time. ive
thought about it for so long now that I
think its about time I share it with you.
Copyrights. And not for the reason you
probly will think.
Ive always disliked copyrights. I dont
see the deeper meaning why we all want
to use it so badly. In the long run
its all about money anyway.
Ok not all the time but alot of them.
When I see people go
DONT COPY,USE,TRACE,STEAL ITS MINE
It makes me mad, why whould this be so
important if you are willing to share
your art online? I mean, you cant stop
people from taking it anyway.
Ive thought about this for the longest
time, why it bothers me because ive been
doing this myself. Its been a weird

Tips For Commission ArtistsHello! I thought of making this small guide, based from my personal experience, to give tips to artists, mostly beginners, to be more successful at selling commissions, since seeing from my previous journal many had difficulty with it. So here are some tips to help boosting your sales.
Have your commission info somewhere visible
Possibly, people won't even know you are taking commissions or if they are open if you don't put your commission info somewhere they can see. You can do this in a journal, that I mostly recommend, since it will be showing into your watcher's inboxes and most of your watchers probably rarely visit your profile page. You could still also use the commission widget, or donation poll to write your info. You can also link to your commission info in your signature or the artist's comment of new drawings you upload.
Keep it simple
Don't add too many unnecessary rules or in
Want more commissions? This journal is for artists who want to get more commissions, or want to open commissions and never had so they don't know how best to present their art, or even for those artists who took commissions before but would appreciate some more tips
There are a few pretty important things to consider before publicly announcing you're opening commissions:
1. payment method. The deviantart commission widget takes 20% of your profit, but then again more deviants have points so you're likely to get 20% more customers like that. But don't forget there are people who have paypal and don't feel like dealing with points so if you decide to open commissions through deviantart, don't let that be the ONLY payment method.
Paypal is the most common payment method used online and i strongly recommend it. Make a paypal account, connect it to a card and you're ready. But don't forget paypal has a limit of $3000 per year withdrawal. So if you're serious about drawing art for a living and you
Randomizing Your StablesA recent trend in DA stables (whether they are registered with the :iconhorseart-rpg: or other horse art clubs) has been to use randomized stats and events for your horses. Some only use it for breeding and foaling, others use it only for competitions, and some just use it for the horse's general life time. Or all three and many other uses.
These random outcomes are used to do things like determine if a breeding was successful or not or how healthy a foal is when it was born. For competitions its used to find out if your horse won, placed, or just lost at a usually made up list of events, usually these don't include club-hosted competitions the horse is entered into but they can. For the horse's general life the results are generally used pertaining to the horse's health, numbers can be rolled to see if a horse might colic or come up lame or be injured in its day to day activities.
While sometimes these systems can seem a little overwhelming, they're great for adding depth to your stab
