The Palace of Madness

Didn't think I'd whip up more Shadows of Wiccumshire concept art so soon, did you? Well, neither did I, so...

Here we have one of the most pivotal locations in the entire game: the Palace of Madness. It's something of an eldritch location that sits smack-dab in the middle of the Province of Wiccumshire, Angland. Sealed deep within its walls is a threat to the very fabric of reality, which was successfully apprehended by a group of witches long ago. Soon afterwards the witches formed a community often referred to as the Shadows of Wiccumshire, since their job is to maintain the magic seal that keeps the entity within bound, and thus live outside the main community. About every three generations or so, the Helrynega clan sends off one of their own to renew the contracts with the five spirits that help the witches retain the seal on the Palace (the player character can be named by you, but since she's a member of this clan, I simply call her Helrynega. The only other members are her mother and grandmother). Since these magic seals are scattered all across Wiccumshire (in the shape of a pentagram, obviously), she must travel to each in order to renew the spirits' contracts. Normally, this would be a fairly routine ordeal, but not this time around...

But anyway, enough story for now. I really like how this came out, so much so that I decided to make it an art print. I tried something a little different with the coloring, and I think it worked really well. I think muted secondary colors will probably be a chromatic theme in Shadows of Wiccumshire

Building: "Gaaa-ROOOOOP...."

It's an awesomely weird and creepy design, but just perfect for the kind of thing you're describing. As intense and potentially creepy as the game sounds these "weeping" towers have a spark of humor to them too. (Not that I'd be careless about which doorway to go through! :)) Really nice storybook style and great lighting for an eerie but non-horror mood as she approaches. Neat work on the scenery and background too, and the mist on the lake is a really nice touch.

Holy hell, I love this. And I love that the buildings look like creepy sad mushrooms.

Lol, they'd probably have the same effect as creepy sad mushrooms too if you got too close to them in that you'd hallucinate like mad and probably lose your mind

I expected more tentacles from the 'palace of madness', but then I guess madness it different for everyone.

The closer you get to it, the more distorted reality gets, so maybe we're just not quite close enough to see its tentacles yet.

And come to think of it, why are tentacles what everyone expects when it comes to madness?  Is it solely because of Lovecraft, or is there some other reason....?

I didn't even know that was a thing. Generally madness makes me think warped perspective or distorted proportions and whatnot (something like this). But madness and tentacles does sound very Lovecraftian.

Well that's the cliffnotes version of any lovecraft story: cults, madness, tentacles, the end.

I do like your version, though.
