What's going on over there?

Earth has a lot going on, even so far into the future, many of the classic car designs have survived, many being built a new, those seeking to use the automated factories can do so with relative ease, hundreds, sometimes thousands of parts wait for assembly, but the old world vehicles aren't as viable so they must be modified. Currency is a big deal also, not so much for the prevalence, but for the critical nature of the materials and the rarity of so many of the coins as trade and services rule the economy with the average lifespan being around 38. Why is that, well, as you can see, there's telekinetic sea serpents that can come inland. Not good to say the least, just one of many of the "Mind-Terror" that skulk the lands.
