Days of old

I think I originally started this piece in 2019, or at least I remember I started it while or shortly after watching "Song of the Sea" - which by the way is an incredible movie - then I probably realized that it would take longer than a day to finish and put it on hold.

When I was looking through my Gimp projects recently, it came up again and I finally completed it.

I'm not entirely happy with the result. It was intended to look more like something out of "Song of the Sea", but halfway through, I was like "Oh, but let's try to make the water more realistic" and "Isn't that a pretty meadow?" and "Let's put some more plants and animals in there". Yeah, so ... style-wise, it simply is what it is. Like it or not. At least I got some practice.

The motif itself is meant to invoke that certain feeling of melancholia when thinking about one's childhood. Happy, careless days that you will never experience again.
