WW Maps: Azteca by ThanyTony WW Maps: Azteca by ThanyTony
I've been planning to redo the maps now that World Witches has come into the scene for quite a while now, but I never figured it out how I wanted to do it....until now.

Here it is again, bigger, more detailed and with some extra bits like the country's story, and other interesting information.
For all the Strike Witches/World Witches (One day we'll have to get used to the term XD) out there, the remake of the Azteca Map (Origina: fav.me/d8emyvv) is here!

Enjoy!

Absolutely amazing.
I would've picked a slightly more muted and less distracting texture for the water but everything else looks great. I love the topographical surfaces and the landmarks.
with these additional new maps you've basically created a World Witches complete Atlas.

Hahaha yeah, thanks.
It took longer than usual but I like the ultimate result.
It was really hard to make up the topographical surfaces because Azteca is so different than Mexico and I had to check not just the map of Mexico but also from Arizona and New Mexico (Alta California) to include it in the map, the rivers and lakes were probably the hardest part.
The inlcusion of the state capitals was a last minute thing but I like how it looks, and it was fun deciding which one would be for Alta California, in the end I decided to go for Albuquerque.

Yeah don't worry about the water, I'll tone it down for the next one, I am still deciding between Romagna and a new one that wasn't in the other maps but now I'll include because of a suggestion, Malaysia.

For consistency reasons you may want to leave the water the same troughout the entire map set, otherwise if you were to change the style you'd have to start with this one.
That's totally up to you, i don't really mind at all!

I'm curious, how much of the information that you use is available and found through actual World Witches resources?
I know that info is very scarce and kinda vague on all these countries... but what kinds of things are established and what methods do you use to find them?
I like that you mix real world map information and history in there as well to formulate these countries, it gives it a very authentic feel. I'm just wondering how
much of a help is the World Witches map and other official books? Probably not much, hence your desire to expand on the details yourself and provide us with this cool info!

Well I had to change it anyway because I noticed something, the PSD file for the map was like half a GB and it turns out, it was because of the water effect, I don't understand why, but as soon as I got rid of it the file shrunk to just 43 Mb, so....I think I'll use one that is smoother I guess XD, these file size mechanics is something I don't understand XD

Well, depends on the country, if you pick something well known like an European or Asian country, there is going to be TONS of information aviable for you, you just have to adapt it to both the world map and the timeline, sometimes it's easy because these are very present through the timeline, but others like Azteca here aren't mentioned at al.
Being from Latin America, it helps me because I know information about Latin American countries and I just use the names of the world map to make the story about them.
For Azteca for example, being called like this and knowing the history of Mexico, I deduced that this means that if the conquerors came, they weren't as brutal (Which let's face it, no judgement but their religion played a big part on their actions) and allowed them to have a somewhat peaceful coexistance during colonial times, which allowed them to retain their culture enough to still use thier native name in modern times.

With that info I just adapt it to the real world history accordingly, changing what needs to be changed (Like the Mexican American war being played very differently here with all the factors present like Witches and more open trading).

Sometimes it's REALLY hard especially for countries with very little information or ancient countries that taking away abrahamic influence are left with HUGE gaps where...everything would go like Persia, Ostoman and Egypt. So from then on, it's very especulative basis, you just have to create a path of "What if Islam never came?", and then try to carve a path as good as you can always taking into account the elements that the world of SW gives you.

It's really hard sometimes but fortunately there is enough information on the internet to have a ground to work on, and in case all is lacking, you can use the influence of other countries on them to help them get a history, for example the African nation like Northen Africa, Kongo and Ouedraogo, you add Roman Expeditions into these lands to spread an unity sentiment, you create an Africa were really powerful neuroi roam around and being teached that unity will help them survive, thus with this you allow for the creation of solid african states getting rid of the tribalism that hurts them so much.

You just have to play with history and the timeline and world map of SW constantly, it's hard sometimes, but REALLY fun XD

By the way, for this new series of maps, I am planning on adding a couple of countries, including Malaysia now as its own nation.
I am kind of stuck thought, what should it be named? Do you have a suggestion? And...what about Singapoore? Thanks to some highresolution maps of the SW world, I can now see not only that it is there, but it's a different color than Malaysia...what do you think I should do with it?

Do you think it would be part of Malaysia or should it be its own nation seeing as there is no reason for the split in this universe?

Well I feel that Singapore should be included into Malaysia as for the longest time and including under British rule, Malaysia and Singapore were put under one government. And here is a name suggestion for Malaysia, Sultanate of Malaya

It cannot be a sultanate as there is no islam thought, so there is no possible way for the influece of arabic/persian tendecies to make it to Malaysia.
What was the most "solid" and strongest kingdom in Malaysia before the arrival of Islam?

It can be called Malaya thought, but it wouldn't be a sultanate.

There was, the Kingdom/Empire of Malacca that changed in 1414 when Islam came, turning it into the Malaccan Sultanate. So in the Strike Witches world it would probably be called the Empire of Malacca.

Excellent, it'll be the Kingdom of Malacca then.
I have to study its story very well and adapt it to the SW universe (Especially with the HUGE gap with the abscent of Islam from the 1300s to 1945) I'll do it after Romagna.
