As you might have seen in SoD: Omega Supreme, Omega Supreme has kept Grand Slam and Raindance close, during the metacycles.
We can only suppose that he knew more than he let thrugh about the experiments that Jhiaxus performed on them.
For the same reason, he suspected that they were not the only mini-Gestalt experiment; fearing that some other Cassettes could chose a more negative path, he decided to provide his "protegés" with the means to fight back, should the most terrible of the scenarios occur.
Sadly, he was right, and events didn't allow him to witness the results of his accurate plannings.
