It wouldn’t be April Fool’s Day on DeviantArt without something out of the ordinary happening, and this year was no exception: Deviants were quick to catch on to the surge of art of Hoofs being tied to April Fool’s Day, and many were just as quick to post their own fan art of him, rallying to save the mysterious creature from a banhammer. So, where did Hoofs come from? He started as an idea from @danlev to create a creature that we would ban from the site, and @Kietz took to it with gusto, creating the design for the eventually named, and incomparable, Hoofs. The H on Hoofs’ body was there before we decided on a name for him. Originally, we joked that the name shouldn’t have anything to do with the H whatsoever, but when push came to shove we settled on Hoofs — in part because of the deliberate misspelling of hooves, and in part because he doesn’t have any. ;) We wanted to make sure there was more to the joke than just the fake Site Update, though, so we commissioned some
