Hi Everyone.  A friend of mine  :iconthe-darcsyde: is currently facing a health situation and trying to deal with worsening mobility issues.  To help him get a mobility scooter, there is a Go-Fund-Me page to help raise the money for it.  If anyone can spare a bit of cash, it would help make a big difference in his quality of life.  Every little bit helps.  If you have a moment, please check out the page here:   www.gofundme.com/independence-…  Thank you very much for your time and consideration.

Hey everyone!  Just wanted to give a shout out for an artist who has started a Kickstarter project  I wanted to help promote. ZZZComic  :iconzzzcomics: has started his Patriotika comic.  Some of you might know of the excellent work ZZZ comics has been putting out.  He and the Patriotika team are committed to putting out high quality art and comics, and I have no doubt this new project will meet or exceed the high standards he is known for.  If you have a moment, check out his Kickstarter here...   www.kickstarter.com/projects/m…     I am sure you won't be disappointed.

Hello everyone!   Ok, I think that this time my return is for real.  Please be patient with me as I try to catch up on a monumental backlog  of comments, notes, and responses.  That task alone seems impossible.

I want to sincerely thank the moderators and members of Angel Falls for all their hard work keeping the group up and running while I was away.  I really can't tell you how much I appreciate all you guys and all the work you have done.

So, give me some time to catch up and get my feet wet again in the writing and submitting of art and stories.

It feels good to once again be back with everyone here.

Contests and Offers

It seems it is contest time on DA.

First, I am thrilled to announce a new contest for the :iconangel-fallsda: group.  :iconbrad328: is sponsoring a contest to design the new logo for Angel Falls' resident superhero group, the Guardians.  The winner receives a 1 year premium membership to DA and 2400 DA points to do with as they please.  Submissions will be taken until the end of August.  Full details can be found here: fav.me/d5arf8y

Second, my own character Walkiria is currently competing for the final spot in :iconargocomics: contest for original characters to appear in the comic alongside the super-team Argo 5.  Congratulations to :iconsoviet-superwoman: for already making into the next round. It's a great contest with lots of awesome original characters and I am tremendously honored to have been invited to participate.  If you have a moment, visit :iconargocomics: and vote for the character you would like to see featured in the comic.  There are some really interesting original characters to pick from.

Another opportunity that some of you might be interested in is a search for female voice actors currently underway.  Want to hear yourself as a character in a game?  Check out fav.me/d5a3ti1 for all the details.

So, a brutal summer is starting to wind down.  Hopefully the remaining part is cooler and less stormy here.  With luck I will have more time for writing and posting here on DA now.

A sad anniversary

Mon Aug 6, 2012, 1:21 AM
I just purchase commissions, none of the visual art in my galleries is my own work. All credit for the art should go to the artists I credit in the comments under each piece.

It has been one year since the tragic and untimely passing of Vince.  I wanted to put some thoughts to paper as I remember him on this sad anniversary.

I do not want to misrepresent my relationship with Vince.  I can't claim that Vince was my best friend.  I cannot truthfully call him an old friend as I was just starting to really get to know him when a house fire took his life.  I do sincerely wish that I could say that I had gotten to know him better. And I do envy those on DA who knew him better than I did.  I think it is because I was just starting to get to know him that his death haunted me so much when it happened.  There was, and still is, a sense of loss.  A sense that an opportunity to get to know someone who was a special person was lost.  You only need to look at the comments posted on Vince's DA page after his death to start to get a sense of how highly he was regarded by so many of us in this online community.  They all attest to what I was learning about him; that he was a man who was supportive of many artists and people on DA.

I first met Vince when he joined the Angel Falls group here on DA with his character Fantastic Lin.  Vince's relationship with the character of Lin was unlike anything I had seen before.  Vince always said he was not the owner of Lin, just her herald and scribe.  But I think everyone knew it was him that brought the character to life in stories and art that he shared here on DA.  When he first joined Angel Falls, a few other members and myself had doubts that he would work out.  His focus on Lin was so intense, we wondered if he could fit into a group that requires give and take and an ability to work towards a bigger picture to be successful.  But my initial doubts and concerns were overcome as I started to see the things that he brought to our group.  Vince soon showed he was willing to work with people to make good stories.  He didn't insist that his character always won, just that she never gave up.  In this he showed that he understood that heroes don't always need to win to be heroes.  They just had to get up one more time than they are knocked down.  He welcomed new members to the group and was willing to involve others in his stories and lend his character for others to include in their stories.  And I always got the impression that Vince was truly grateful whenever someone included Lin in a story.  As the group grew, the character of Lin grew as well, gaining more dimensions and becoming a character that readers could identify with.

Vince was one of the first people who were added to the group's administrative staff as we began to grow.  He was happy to help and was a real asset to me.  Angel Falls was not the only group he was active in.  But that was Vince.  Always willing to help if he was able and to be there to support others.  He was quick to spread the word if an artist needed some help or if a fellow DA member needed assistance.  I could and did turn to him for his opinion and advice on group matters for the Angel Falls group.  I wonder just how many artists he had encouraged and supported.  Judging by the reactions after his passing, the number was not a small one.  For me, he was someone I could trust and rely upon.  In retrospect, my early doubts about him seem very petty and small-minded of me.  That is a lesson I try to remember as I deal with people here on DA.

I used to poke fun at the various guises he would have Lin depicted in.  As I said, his intensity about Lin was something novel for me and I didn't always know how to take it.  All I can say now is I would gladly give so very much if it were somehow possible for him to still be here and posting pictures of Policewoman Lin or Construction Worker Lin.  I miss his input in the Angel Falls group and think about him often.

I still remember that fateful Saturday.  I saw Vince online on my Yahoo messenger program that morning.  I remember seeing him going offline, and thinking he must be going to lunch.  The thought that it might have been due to the house fire that he went offline still makes me shudder.  I was the last person he sent a message to on DA.  Less than 30 minutes before his death he sent me a reply to a comment I made.  It is just a simple fun and flirty comment made in character for Lin.  Just some in-character banter made in passing.  But it remains in my message queue to this day because I cannot bring myself to delete it.

When I look at various submissions on DA and see comments that Vince left, I often smile.  Vince left a lot of them; he seemed to know that many artists really appreciate feedback.  But today it is a bit harder to smile.  Today I feel the void of his passing.  I feel the sense of lost opportunity.  I feel the sting of a good man dying a senseless and pointless death.  Today I feel that DA is a little colder and a little smaller because Vince isn't around.  I try to remember him, and if it possible to honor his memory by trying to remember the things I admire about him.  Remembering that simple encouragement can mean all the world to new artists. That I shouldn't be too quick to judge someone online.  And that tomorrow comes with no guarantee.  That opportunities can be fleeting and may not come again; so make the most of them while I can.  I am glad I had a chance to tell Vince how much I appreciated his help and support before his death.  If I had waited, it would have been a source of great regret.  It would have made the loss even more tragic for me personally.

So today, I remember Vince.  I say a prayer for him and for his family and friends who must feel his loss so much more than I do.  I hope that time allows all who knew him get past the pain and remember him with fondness and love. Rest in peace Vince.

I wanted to say "Thank You" to everyone who was kind enough to wish me Happy Birthday last week.  I really appreciate all of the kind comments and gifts.  I will thank everyone individually as well as time permits.  I wish I could have done so sooner, but unfortunately my birthday falls on the single busiest period for me as far as my real life job is concerned.  And during this time I have nearly no spare time to go online.  So please be patient with me as I try to catch up on emails, DA notes, and comments this week as my schedules start to go back to what passes for normal for me.  Again, thanks to everyone who took a moment to say Happy Birthday.  It came at a time when I really needed it.

:flagus: :salute: :flagus:

Today is Memorial Day in the United States of America.  A day when all Americans will hopefully take a  moment to remember and reflect on the service and sacrifices of members of the Armed Forces.  If you are an American please take a moment to do that, and if you know someone who has served or is serving in the military tell them you appreciate what they have done for our country.

To all the great people I have met here on DA who have or are serving in the military, thank you very much for your service to our country and know I appreciate and honor the sacrifices and hardships you have endured doing so.  Thank you very much!

I just got my custom art mouse pads from :iconsean-loco-odonnell: and I am absolutely thrilled with them.  He made two pictures; one a collection of some of my original characters   Mousepad Art 1 by Teri-Minx and the other the characters from my original roleplaying group. Mousepad Art 2 by Teri-Minx The second one features American Avenger :iconvesta10: , Ultrawoman :iconu1trawoman:, Twisted Savant :icontwistedsavant:, and my own character Slipstream.

I am amazed how well the designs look on these high quality mouse pads.  :iconsean-loco-odonnell: is offering custom art mouse pads as one of his commission options.  So if you have a group of characters or a signature character you want to see immortalized on a mousepad, stop by Sean's page and commission one for yourself, or as a great Xmas or birthday gift for a friend.  You will be amazed how great they look!

Tragic news and profound sadness.

Fri Aug 12, 2011, 3:12 PM
I just purchase commissions, none of the visual art in my galleries is my own work. All credit for the art should go to the artists I credit in the comments under each piece.

It is with utmost sadness that I learned some horrible news today.  Fellow DA member Vince3 died tragically last weekend.  rinjipantera.deviantart.com/jo… It is so hard to write this right now.  The unexpected loss and pain are like a raw nerve that runs right into my soul.

Vince was one of the first people to help me develop the idea of the Angel Falls group.  He was one of the first members; and his support and friendship were unwavering in every sense of the word.  He was always ready to lend his support and efforts to making the group grow and live.  When I asked if he would consider becoming a moderator to help with the routine admin work the group requires he agreed without an instant of hesitation and did the job perfectly.

I am person who has always made lots of characters.  Vince's focus was clearly on his beloved Lin character.  At first I was concerned her wouldn't fit into the group because a group like Angel Falls requires people to be team players.  Characters that are unbeatable don't last long in that sort of environment.  But Vince soon found his footing and dispelled all my doubts.  You just have to look at how many characters and storylines Lin interacted with and you begin to understand what a vital part of Angel Falls he was.  Vince was always ready to try to support storylines and new characters.  Vince also helped out numerous artists here on DA.  He helped support FMG groups and artists with his generosity.

He helped me with storylines and ideas for making the group stronger.  Fantastic Lin was scheduled to appear in a couple of my upcoming storylines.  Vince was always thrilled when Lin got exposure in storylines and was appreciated by other members.  It is my most sincere hope that I will be able to post those stories as a tribute to him.  It would be the very least I can do for someone who gave so much and asked so little in return.

May God hold you in the palm of his hand, Vince.  Thank you for all you gave, and know you will live on in the hearts and memories of the many people you touched here on DA.

For those who have asked what will happen to Lin at Angel Falls, that will be determined in a few days after we all have a chance to grieve and say goodbye.

In the latest Hollywood news, it has been revealed that Ultrawoman will be starring in her first feature length movie this coming summer. [ see the trailer here:  www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2MeY-… ]   Hollywood insiders were surprised at the announcement, given that she had one had one significant role prior to this new film, as a minor antagonist in the popular Walkiria blockbuster film. [ see the Walkiria trailer here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNgwlX… ]

With her previous acting experience limited to 8mm films loops of approximately 15 minutes duration, Ultrawoman made enough of an impact with her role in the Walkiria movie that some studio executives took notice.

Although Ultrawoman publicly took credit for a starring role in the Walkiria film, most Hollywood insiders generally agree Ultrawoman was a star the same way the sides of beef were stars in the Rocky movies or Greedo was in the Star Wars movie.  Still, the studio's creative team was tasked with finding the proper vehicle for the villainess's starring debut. [ see the biased publicist statement here:  u1trawoman.deviantart.com/jour… ]

After tireless effort on the part of the studio's creative department, the perfect script was developed.  The new Ultrawoman movie would be a biographical piece, one that would show the full arc of Ultrawoman's journey from noble warrior into what she is today.  Early reviews have all commented on how effectively this movie captures the real essence of what Ultrawoman is.  In a novel marketing tactic, studio executives have announced that tickets for the film with be available just like Ultrawoman, at a heavily discounted price.

Fans are encouraged to view the new trailer here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2MeY-… reviews should be posted here:  u1trawoman.deviantart.com/&nbs… let the studios know you want to see more of the new Hollywood star.

Ok, after some people gave me some guidance, let's revise this operation to make it easier for everyone.

Forget what I said about emailling the stories or pictures, as that is too involved and slow.  Angel Falls [AF] moderators will simply fave any AF posts from individuals' galleries and collect them in the club fave folder.

Any art or stories that are sequential can be grouped into collections within the club fave folder.  An example of what I mean is the three "Falling Star" art and story piecs in my gallery.

So what do you think?  This should be easier, since it requires people to do little or nothing different than before.

If anyone feels creative, the club could use a cool avatar pic idf someone can create one?
