Description
And here it is, the king of the dinosaurs, a badass mothertrucker that everybody knows and loves( wel most of em do). I originally planned to do this one as the last one for the tyrannosaur series but I just had to make an exception since the smithsonian museum(yes, THE smithosnian museum) asked me if they could use my tyrannosaurid lineage of pictures for a webcast (that is just so awesome, I still cant belive it). They plan to show my Tyrannosaurid(only the tyrannosaurids, not the whole tyrannosauroidea) size table and since that one is horribly outdated i decided to draw the last remaining big tyrannosaurs as fast as possible, so I can give them the latest and up to date size chart for tyrannosauridae . For that, T rex, Alioramus and Albertosaurus are still mising and I dont know if I can finish all of em till the deadline, so i started with t rex so i can make sure I can at least depict the king of dinosaurs as accurate as possible. I hope I can finish an alioramus tomorrow. But for now here is my take at t rex, depicted as accurately as possible, I used a whole bunch of references, mostly actual skeletons, the head for example is based on "Stan", a male tyrannosaurus skeleton. Other ones were "wyrex" and of course " sue". Wyrex has skin impression from the tail which clearly shows that some ares of Tyrannosaurus had scales while the discovery of yutyrannus meant that depicting tyrannosaurs without any feathers is inacceptable as well. The result speaks pretty much for itself, it looks pretty damn realistic in my opinion. Since we dont know how many feathers tyrannosaurus had, restorations with few feathers and such with a lot of feathers are both acceptable at the moment. I have to say I really really like the tyrannosaurus in T rex autopsy and at first I wanted to do just that, basically short bristlles all over the back of the animal, but I decided to give it a little bit more feathers, as well as a tail tuft which looks pretty elegant on such a big animal. I went for a bit more shaggy feather look since it looks more badass that way. I also incorporated the idea of lips to some extent , as you see on the lower jaw were the gums are slightly showing and stuff. all in all I fleshened to animal up much more in my earlier reconstrcution, giving it a much more natural and less zombie like look. I also used scott hartmans skeletal reconstruciton for the overall proportions, especially the really really muscular body which results in that the legs look rather short and the anima a bit stocy but thats probably just how you look if your bady is just made up of muscles- seriously, t rex was a true heavyweight, muhc more robust and powerfully built than animals like giganotosaurus. I have to say I am very very pleased with the result, I think its one of my best ones, what do you think?
