Megawhaitsia patrichae, is a huge genus of whaitsiid therocephalian
This beast, from which its head alone is 50 cm long, was a tiger sized predator. More than that, Megawhaitsia was probably venomous! A true monster. Megawhaitsia was an apex predator, but it isnt very popular, just like the wole whaitsiid family, which is quite sad, because they are awesome, and if you look at megawhaitsia, you know why :D
Head is based on Darkbinders "freakin therapsid" picture [link]

Why do people think it was venomous?

grooves in the maxilla indicating a possible venomous aparatus.

Okay, I was wondering, thanks :)
And its relatrive was venomous.
Scary thing......the idea of a venomous synapsid.....

i really hope they put him in Primeval: New World as a predator that the team have to catch. giant therocephalians really deserve the limelight.
it was in the original.
Saberrex's avatar
i thought that was Euchambersia.
Turned out I was mistaken.

But they had gorgonopsids in both the original and New World and I don't see any need for a similar predator only with venom (that's overkill)
Saberrex's avatar
perhaps, but it gave the Therocephalians the limelight they deserved along with Walking with Monsters.
But the WW series is so inaccurate (on par with such infamous "docs" like COTD, MB, JFC) that they need other attention.
Saberrex's avatar
well, it was accurate for its time, however brief.

I seriously wonder why therocephalians get so little attention, because they do seem to be pretty diverse.

Primeval therapsid?
Teratophoneus's avatar
no,the one from primeval was euchambersia, megawhaitsia was much bigger, about the size of a tiger

Nope. Its a Thrinaxodon. In the web page of creature deisgner appear Therocephalian as Thrinaxodon.
Teratophoneus's avatar
really, sounds not very plausible,as thrinaxodon is a cynodont and not a therocephalian. Also the creatues lokk nothing like a thrinaxodon. Maybe the creature designer made a mistake...
It was a therocephalian and called that.
malevouvenator's avatar
Nope. The original design was more therocephalian. No externarl ears. Maybe they called thrinaxodon and added the external ears. When I will find it again I will send you.

Looks really wicked! You've inspired me to look up this rather unique animal.
