Thalia, the Muse of Comedy.

See the other Muses:
Calliope - Clio - Erato
Polyhymnia - Melpomene - Thalia
Urania - Terpsichore - Euterpe

She fought me the whole way and I might still re-design her at a later point. I wanted to reference jesters/clowns/Commedia dell'arte without it being an outright clown outfit. I still can't decide if I prefer her mask with or without color (I'm also aware that the comedy mask may in fact be creepier than Mel's tragedy mask).

I wanted her to have a largely white and grey color scheme as Melpomene's (tragedy) color scheme is mostly black and grey. My goal was to show that while they're essentially opposites, they've still got elements of each other. Basically two sides of the same coin. They balance each other out and one can't exist without the other one. Melpomene and Thalia's relationship is also a bit different from the other Muses, but I won't reveal how right now as I haven't quite gotten to that point in the story yet.

Thalia and the other Muses appear in my Rise of the Guardians fanfiction, and I'm also working on developing them independently of that universe for one of my classes. Thalia is one of the few Muses that Jack gets along with (she thinks he's funny) and is constantly bothering North to let her have one of his elves. She's a bit slow at times, and scatterbrained, but has her moments of brilliance and loves what she does.

Something Quite Peculiar - Chapter 01
Chapter One: Reminiscing
The cabin could barely be called a cabin. It was more of a hut: a building in the loosest sense of the word. It had four walls and a roof, a door, a window, and a chimney that looked as though it were ready to fall over. Truthfully, it appeared that a strong gust of wind could knock down the shack, with signs surrounding which read, “Condemned” and “No Trespassing.”
The small structure was concealed behind several large trees, and was incredibly easy to miss, nestled within the forest that rarely anyone ventured into.
It was always snowing around this cabin, regardless of the season.
Inside was exceedingly less interesting than outside, if at all possible. There was only one room, which contained a mattress and pillow in the corner, a fireplace that appeared to have not been used in decades, and a few shelves on one of the walls.
The shelves proved to be at least somewhat intriguing, containing items such as a matryoshka do

Thalia reminds me a lot,
the figure of the old Italian Renaissance comedy dell arte.
Colombina. :)

I feel like Thalia is my favorite. Mainly because she resembles Columbia from Rocky Horror.

Thalia seems to be a lot of people's favorite!  I'm sure she'd love a sparkly tophat, lol.

I love this, seriously your work on the masks are fantastic. I am a bit of freak when it comes to masks (I actually have the tragedy and comedy masks tattooed on my back). You have really taken each of these styles and genera of art and made them your own.

Thanks!  I wanted to have some fun with the masks, but Comedy turned out to be way more challenging than Tragedy.

Yeah, it's hard when you wanna move from classic. If you were having problems with Tragedy, I would have directed you to the Black Death mask (big bird beak), things got a history. But I like the skull way more. XD

I considered messing with a Plague Doctor mask but the skull worked out pretty well. =]

You see? Digital perfection like this just simply isn't fair. Wait, how long have you been doing digital? Because I've been at it for around a month, and easily lose patience, soo...yeah.

Thank you.   Haha, I've been messing around with digital art since I was like thirteen so (and then I tried to do math) about eight years?  Six of that in photoshop.  It just takes a lot of messing around to see what things do and reading a lot of tutorials.

Oh. Self-confidence just went up a bit. Please tell me you sucked through the first month, too. I feel alone in my suckishness.

I think everyone sucks when they first start out, lol, it was pretty bad.  Just keep practicing, you will get better!
