Calliope, the Muse of Epic Poetry.

See the other Muses:
Calliope - Clio - Erato
Polyhymnia - Melpomene - Thalia
Urania - Terpsichore - Euterpe

The second I decided that she was going to have a feather quill theme and therefore a feather dress, I knew it was a terrible idea. Because then I would find myself here, trying to draw a dress made almost entirely of feathers. But no, I couldn't just stop there, I had to make them iridescent feathers. Anyway, the dress was a pain in the ass but I'm really, really pleased with how it came out. If Calliope ever needs to write something down, she simply plucks a feather from her dress and gets to writing, no external ink supply needed.

Calliope is the oldest of the nine Muses, and acts as their leader and representative. Being the oldest, she acts as sort of a maternal figure to the other Muses (whether they want her to or not), knowing that anything that reflects poorly on them reflects poorly on her, as well. She's strict and often hard-headed, not always the easiest to get along with.

As times have changed, Calliope dabbles in poetry in general as well as novels alongside epic poetry. She travels by turning into a bird, with feathers matching her dress. Birds often inspired her in her human life, and also played an indirect role in her death before becoming the first Muse.

Calliope and the other Muses appear in my Rise of the Guardians fanfiction, and I'm also working on developing them independently of that universe for one of my classes. In the story, Calliope is especially close to the Sandman. She was the first Muse the sun chose and Sandy was the first Guardian the moon chose. Sandy was also the first immortal being that Calliope met and befriended. Calliope and Jack often find themselves at odds; she is not all that impressed with the winter spirit.

She may also be the only Muse that is actually Greek, I'm currently undecided on this.

Something Quite Peculiar - Chapter 01
Chapter One: Reminiscing
The cabin could barely be called a cabin. It was more of a hut: a building in the loosest sense of the word. It had four walls and a roof, a door, a window, and a chimney that looked as though it were ready to fall over. Truthfully, it appeared that a strong gust of wind could knock down the shack, with signs surrounding which read, “Condemned” and “No Trespassing.”
The small structure was concealed behind several large trees, and was incredibly easy to miss, nestled within the forest that rarely anyone ventured into.
It was always snowing around this cabin, regardless of the season.
Inside was exceedingly less interesting than outside, if at all possible. There was only one room, which contained a mattress and pillow in the corner, a fireplace that appeared to have not been used in decades, and a few shelves on one of the walls.
The shelves proved to be at least somewhat intriguing, containing items such as a matryoshka do

Yet another Muse design that you should be proud of. I seriously love, I write poetry, naturally, a favorite. I love the dress. The extra umph you gave the dress with the papers unders the feather. Very simple looking, and so very amazing.
