[DEVIATION] CHAPTER XXXVI. Blood is Spilled, The Reunion Trapped in the cell at Lowell's stronghold, Wasdor searches for a means of escape, until he is startled by a sound from by the door. Wasdor looked and realized there was a round gap in the metal facing attached to that wall. It was dark now, but he comprehended that there had been a bright spot in the middle before. The wall had a spy hole, and someone had looked in on him. The sound had been the the metal cover sliding back into place. “No,” Wasdor thought to himself, “they would not let me get away with very much. They mean to hold on to me.” He leapt off the bed and knelt down upon the floor. There was not enough space under the door to where he might see light or the feet of someone standing there, but he knew he could listen, for he had spoken to Elizabeth through the door earlier. It starts with the air hitting me as i step out onto the AirStairs. Thick and sweet, rolling off the tarmac in the way only jet fuel and heat can, gets up under my collar and into my nose so every single breath smells like power and money. I’m not even at the bottom of the stairs before some guy in a suit, thin, grey, custom-fitted to an inch of its life, is already hovering, eyes down, like if he looks me in the face he’ll burst into flames. He doesn’t ask my name, or even “how was your flight,” just a little head tilt and a palm out “this way" sir”. The actual private jet is still hissing and ticking behind me, all white and glossy and dumb as hell, like a flex on physics, and for one microsecond, I wanna turn around and snap a selfie just to prove to myself this actually happened, but I don’t. Too cliche. Instead, I glide down the steps like this is what I do every day, a fucking velvet rope runway, and the man in the suit, his tie is so tight it might actually be a tourniquet

I sit at the edges of sound where voices pile like waves that can’t find shore. Their words spill into every corner and I shrink into my crevice of silence— a small nook of solitude. This place comforts me. The stillness is an embrace. They speak to fill the space; I breathe to empty it. In their bright rooms, I am a wallflower watching the laughter from the periphery— a chair never pulled into the circle, a painting deserving of a glance. In here, I am whole. Alone, I belong to the pause between words, to a sanctuary where my quietness is not a flaw but a home.
