Nimbus works a lot, most of the time he would skip his meals everytime he finds a breakthrough on his experiments. Ever since he discovered Luminite crystals, he became quite obssesed with studying the different properties of crystals. But he has learned to control his excitement since he has other responsibilities to look after (e.g. paying taxes, buying groceries, etc.)

Due to his experience of living a nomadic life with meager resources after graduating from college, he learned how to be resourceful with whatever he has left in his inventory. He can build almost anything with the right tools at his disposal.

Nimbus is a reliable pony. A quick-witted problem-solver determined to find answers. However, this may make him over-analyze certain situations, and even bring his curiosity too far. When this happens, he may tend to panic and even worsen the problem.

Nimbus is also a quiet pony and kind of anti-social since he spends most of his time at home. When it comes to talking with other ponies, he would just throw out some scientific jargon that ponies would find either interesting or boring. But when it comes to talking about his personal feelings (especially crushes), he tends to choke and not find the right words to express himself.

History: Nimbus grew up in Manehattan with his parents Stratus Sky, who works as the main foreman for one of Cloudsdale's largest weather factories, and Crimson Feather, a gem cutter in her hometown. Even at an early age he is quite a bookworm, reading books without pictures and trying to say the words he didn't understand. He also loved seeing his mother cutting and forging different kinds of gems and crystals for jewelry and small figurines. Nimbus particularly liked a single gem his mother always included in most of her work. It had a distinctive golden-orange color that shines as amber when placed near a light source. Crimson noticed her son liked it so much and on his 8th birthday, she gave him a piece of the gem in the shape of a star as a necklace. She would always say "There is a reason why it glows like that. One day my son, you will discover it."

Ever since his mother passed away a year later, he would spend most of his time in his room reading the books his mother gave him. His father would usually bring him to work and show him the different weather machines and how they function. One time, Nimbus was left at his father's office and constructed a cloud cumulator out of office supplies and scraps of metal he found lying around the factory. The machine absorbs moisture in the air and produce tiny patches of fluffy clouds. Stratus couldn't help but shed a tear just knowing how proud he is and how his wife would react if she were still alive.

One fateful day, Nimbus was at his father's office playing with his cloud cumulator when the machine suddenly produced a small thunder cloud and struck at his mother's gem, which caused instant flashes of amber light around the office. Stratus went to check if Nimbus was fine. Nimbus hid under an office table, shaken when his father saw him. Stratus noticed the gem Nimbus wore was glowing and the cloud cumulator started producing clouds at a fast rate. A few days after the incident, Nimbus studied the gem, noticed that its glow doesn't wear off and how his cloud cumulator made so many clouds. He dubbed the gem "Luminite" because of its glow and how it can power up certain machines. Throughout his life, he became fascinated with different gems and their properties, and even found out how to fuse some of them to create Luminite gems.
