Been very excited to be able to upload this. A painting made for Nihalla, depicting their character by the same name.

The moment I saw this character I knew I had to draw her. I love the design and it's subtle incorporated story elements. Nihalla has also been an incredible support to me, so it made me very happy to be able to make her something. Thank you so much for everything Nihalla, and stay strong. I think you are a wonderful person and artist, and because you work very hard I believe that good things will come to you.Heart

I hope you all like it, and thank you so much for any support, as it is greatly appreciated! ;_;<3

You drew the leaves amazingly! The details that make them look as if they are falling really give the drawing movement!

Wow! I like very much how you did the light here, how it comes through skin on the fins, and that soft ambient light on the shadow side. And these small glowing dots!
On the whole Colors, atmosphere, volumes all are great!
And also i like how you did a focus on character's face by blurring other parts.
Very well done, i just admire it! Heart :happybounce:

I have already been dying over this piece since you started it... no even before you started it BECAUSE I KNEW IT WILL BE SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL. I thought that Nihalla's design is horrible, but it was not the design, but the artist Big Fool Emoji-07 (Cry) [V2]  But you really did an outstanding job, I would have been happy with just an eye, but to get a bust with a background AND SPECIAL EFFECTS.... Like do you want to kill me with the amazingness Cry forever And you have to tell me... how do you do horns? How does one master the art of horn? I can't do it, that is why it got less detailed. But to be honest I could learn basically anything from you and it would be an improvement.
I just don't know what more to say because I don't want to repeat myself... But I love the coloring, the rendering is flawless, the look she is giving seems cunning yet friendly and the markings are on point. And of course BOOM SPARKLES  on the head fins, the wings, the horns, the chest and the claws... SPARKLES EVERYWHERE and I couldn't be happier about it :dead: revamp
I don't believe she could any prettier than this, it's so perfect. But to sum everything up... just know that I LOVE IT Huggle! Heart moomin-hug Dragon Huggle (You get all the hugs and love that you can take)

NO, STOP, YOU'RE THE ONE WHO DESIGNED HER AND YOU DRAW HER WONDERFULLY ASWELL. YOU DON'T DESERVE TO PUT YOURSELF DOWN LIKE THIS.

I am really really glad you like the result though ;_____; It really means a lot to me dajkhrkjas.

As for horns.. UH.... I can actually remember back when I struggled so badly with drawing horns. Despite this, I decided to put the most complicated set of horns on my OC despite not being able to draw them well at all, because I felt they fit her. Eventually I managed to draw them pretty well!.. I guess it's just about being stubborn and never giving up. Give yourself a motivation to succeed, and challenge yourself. There is nothing you can't draw if you don't give up!
As for specific advice... reference, lots of reference xD.. I recommend studying spiraling ram horns! That's what I used anyway. That knowledge came in handy for this drawing especially.

She looks like she would light up beautifully in the night too :D The see-through frill on her head is oddly pleasing to look at XD Also, nice use of complimentaries for the background. She stands out well <3

Wow, amazing work!
I like the colors in the semi-transparent membrane skin (Is that what it's called?) a lot. Any pointers on how you did it?

Gosh, thank you so much ;___; I am really glad you think so, and really appreciate you taking the time to tell me!
I believe it is called membranes yes! Or.. frill membranes maybe? The effect I tried to emulate is called subsurface scattering. It happens when light penetrates objects and picks up the color of the object (or in this case the blood inside the membrane) and illuminates it. It happens to our hands and ears etc too, so I referenced the effect on our skin for it. The key for this effect is backlit light setups, of which I have an addiction to 8D If you do some photo copies of this effect, you should figure out pretty quickly how it works and how to imitate it.

You're welcome and thank you! I think I know subsurface scattering from playing around in Blender (never got it to work too well though, but I also didn't really understand it :P). Anyways, I'll be on the look-out for that effect!

I sadly don't have that much success with 3D programs either.. but if you actually get them to work then they are AMAZING for learning how to paint! It can really help you break down the light process, understanding how to compose scenes and in general see how light affects objects 8D I definitely recommend trying to get the SSS to work in Blender if you have the time, specially on an object/model you want to learn to draw.

I hope the wonders of the SSS effect comes to you swiftlyHeart

GAAAHHHH!!! I want to do it so much! And in theory, I do have the time to play around with fun things like that, but I'm an excellent procrastinator. I even procrastinate on things I want and like to do and, of course, regret it afterward because a lot of time went into procrastination. But if I start I have no trouble doing those things for hours (if I have that much time left). It's so very weird x-x But I'm t̯̩́ͅr̺̱̰̱̂̋̈́y͕͔i̛̮̝͔ͬ͛ṉͪgͩ͗ͣ̿̎̚͏ to fix it. I'm working on it!

Umh, yeah. Do with that information whatever you think is right ^-^" (And if you know some magic fix, please let me know!) Umh, have a nice day full of amazing subsurface scattering! Tuzki Emoticon 3

Oof, procrastination sure is a massive challenge. I really hope you find a way to defeat it!! No idea if this could help but.. for me at least it often helps to make other people hold you accountable by sharing your plans with them. The moment there is a third party involved in my plans, doing them feels more easier for me. I am always more motivated to do things for others rather than myself.

Sending strength over!! \o/

Thank you!

I thought about offering requests, but I often hear that I shouldn't do anything for free. And since I want to take art a bit further than a hobby I also don't want people to get used to me doing things for free. So I should offer commissions, but I don't really have any examples on DA of what I could do. Thus I should create some examples, but I'm procrastinating. It's kind of a vicious cycle. But I think while writing this I might have come up with an idea for breaking it. Let's hope for the best x-x

Have an energized day~✨
