Description

The Jester

“A poem for your thoughts” he said,

“I see your nose is cheery red”

“And I’ll be pardoned when I’m dead,”

That’s what the jester said.

He had a shifting rover’s eye

That watered in a tearful cry

I thought that I would ask him why

He kept that piercing single eye

“I hunger for the want of coin.”

“I have but one,” was my rejoin

“Then it is mine to yet purloin.”

My one and only coin

I’ve been the fool but only twice

I figured it was being nice

And words are sometimes best concise

When you’re the fool but merely twice

Beware beware the jester’s stare

He comes upon you unaware

And then the fool you’re forced to bear

When he beguiles you with his stare.
