My sister-in-law and niece absolutely abhor chocolate. They cannot imagine anyone actually liking it. I really like chocolate but prefer dark chocolate, which is less sweet, and any chocolate I have has to be non-dairy, so "milk" chocolate I buy is actually "rice milk" chocolate, which is available through manufactures with dedicated factories that avoid common food allergens. Commercial chocolate makes me want to gag. I do believe it is true that people's tastebuds may perceive a taste differently than others. Personally, I see people put certain types of food in their mouths and chew, foods that would make be gag or barf
Pretty much everyone will be able to taste the same bitterness, the same sweet. Where the difference is, is in the individuals preference. Even among people who like chocolate, there will be many differences in what taste good, and what doesn't. I love chocolate. I recently bought a brand of chocolate ice cream I've never had. It's horrible. It'd never occurred to me that someone could actually make bad chocolate. As many different verities of chocolate as there are, if you don't like chocolate, maybe you just havn't had the right chocolate?
I'm allergic to dairy (the hives, blisters and swelling kind of allergy to dairy proteins, not the gut-related lactose intolerance kind) so chocolate tastes like delicious, forbidden, reckless nihilism to me. Same with cheese. Other people drink or do drugs self-destructively. I eat pizza and chocolate while crying "I'm going to be so ugly tomorrow but I don't care"
True. I am not a big fan of chocolate and it always baffles me when people are like OMG CHOCOLATE IS THE BEST THING EVER... because to me it is mediocre at best. I am left to assume it just tastes better to others.
