The Other Brother of My Daughter

Dedicated to a really good friend Joe for his BIRTHDAY which was a week ago June 13th!
^{(Last year it was on Friday the 13th, and for some reason I thought he was joking around about that!}


My life is all the better for knowing Joe. He's a very interesting person whose humour I truly appreciate. He's also very intelligent, and I have enjoyed many things he's written. He's a genuine friend who truly cares, and he's also been a long-time ongoing supporter of "The Shelter Project"- very compassion about the well-being and humane treatment of animals.
Joe is an all-around awesome person!

"Joe, I hope by now, after all this time, that you do know how awesome I believe you are.  You are a good person with a big heart. Thank you for everything, and for being a good friend. I celebrate you each day, as someone like you, deserves!

This is Alec, who is available for adoption, at www.southcoasthumane.org/ .
He will be advertised for adoption in all the areas' newspapers, sometime mid-July with this photo.
This photo will soon be used for website purposes beginning this coming week.

Alec has had a rough start in life. He was one of three surviving kittens in his litter born at our humane society March 5th, 2014. A few weeks later, the oldest brother, Tyler developed a bizarre and severe skin condition and was handled constantly, away from his mother Mindy and brother Alec, and it just so happened that Alec did not get handled too much by human hands, due to lack of time, AND due to the fact that Mindy, the mother was never a very friendly cat.

(The THIRD surviving 3rd kitten was taken away on her first FULL day of life, after being found pushed away by Mindy the mother, which is how the others in the litter passed away... which is how I ended up with her, raising her ever since...)

Tyler was finally adopted after that horrid long-term skin condition was cleared up, as well as Alec, several months after being separated from his mother, but was always a little skitterish of human hands...

Well, MANY MONTHS later, (fairly recently) Alec was returned, because the people who adopted him, had decided to make him an outside-only cat, which caused their neighbours to continuously spray him with the hose when he'd come into or near their yard, which is why the owners returned him.

Alec is doing some adjusting right now. He had seemed confused. He had regressed a LOT when he was first returned...

However, he is interested in attention and being pet- and is allowing it more frequently and for longer periods. He also is very interested in playing with toys like other cats, and seems like he just has some catching up to do. He's going to be fine, and better than ever, and hopefully we can get him into a much better and safer home this time!
It's NOT always easy to tell how the adopting home is actually going to turn out.
Of course they have to fill out an application, and they are supposed to tell the truth on the interview questions, and of course there is training in assessing potential adopters, but nothing is guaranteed- and you DO want to give seemingly truly interested parties a chance.

We wish Alec much better luck, with his next family!
