La Decada De La Sirena by TeaPhotography La Decada De La Sirena by TeaPhotography
I would like to dedicate this to ALL of my Watchers and my Friends/Family here on dA!

:love: :love: :heart: :love: :love: :heart: :love: :love:

I now have my 10 years on deviantART, since just this past March 9th. The truth of the matter is, I would not still be here (on dA) without you.
This is why this particular dedication to you ALL, is so important to me.

I never thought when I joined dA ten years ago, that I would still be a member of this amazing community ten years later.
Actually, I really didn't think about it at all, back then. I may have started thinking about this, when it was my 8th year anniversary.

So, I thought I'd have a bit of fun with this, and share "TWO sections of TEN."

TEN THINGS YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT ME

1. I am so literally on the cusp of sun-sign Libra and Scorpio, all the way down to the degree.

2. I was a public school teacher for first grade for nearly 15 years, before my medical issues became too much for me to continue being the best teacher I knew I needed to be.

3. I have a 2nd degree black belt in Kemscrima-Doh, a mixed Martial Arts, but not mixed together... rather separate arts that we had to master equally in order to pass our belt tests. I was working on my 3rd when moving out of state became necessary.

4. I have six tattoos. (omg, I had to literally go and count because I can never remember how many I have! :lol: )

5. The first type of art I ever loved and participated in, beginning as a child, (maybe age six), was WRITING, which I do consider an art.
The first types of things I would write as a child were my own children's stories! The ones I read would always give me such inspiration.

6. My first favourite animal I ever had, and still love on par with almost every animal, was/is the KOALA not-a-bear. ;)

7. Including the country I live in, I have been to 16 different countries-- and I am grateful I travelled like this, when I was younger and more able to do so, health-wise.  Of all of the different countries I've been to, the one I spent the longest time in was, The Philippines - 3 weeks.

8. I speak/read/write 2 languages proficiently- English, Spanish- I used to be able to do Sign-Language as efficiently, and I would translate at events, but I have forgotten a lot of it by now. I speak/but mostly read and understand / 3 languages moderately- French, Portuguese, and Italian.  I took two semesters of Japanese, definitely the hardest language I have ever tried to tackle... and I got an A-, the first semester, and a B+ the 2nd semester, but I can barely put together three sentences verbally, and I can only catch one or two words here and there when I'm listening to it! :lol: I can't even remember how to write one single Kanji symbol! Apparently, except for my mother-tongue, I am more of a Romance Language person. heh.

9. My hair IS naturally red. ;) (although, this particular photo does not do the colour of my hair, justice.)

10. The real and true "dream" I've ever wanted, with such a consistency and long-term earnest, was to LIVE BY THE OCEAN.
The first time my parents took me to the ocean/the beach, I think I was about 3 - trying to remember the photo of me building a sandcastle, and I have been in love with the ocean ever since. The place was Santa Cruz, California, a place I once considered "home away from home" because I would go there every chance I got, and loved it. It was one of several places I tried to move to, on the coast of California, but even when I was working full-time, I could not afford it.
Crossing over the border to the North, it was instantly more affordable, but still not with the ability to live right ON the ocean. Those homes are still astronomical, but in CA. WHOLE CITIES or towns on the coast would be way out of my ability to live even near it. So while, I still can't/don't live overlooking the ocean, I still find the fact that I am in a town that's on the ocean to be MAKING MY DREAM COME TRUE!
When it's quiet at night, the sea lions can be heard from where my little property is... I love it... reminds me of Santa Cruz.

***This is why I have chosen this image. :)

TEN THINGS I HAVE LEARNED FROM DA, AND LIFE IN GENERAL, IN THE LAST TEN YEARS

1. dA taught me rather soon, that it was going to be a site that was more than just for viewing art and sharing my own. I had NO IDEA, I would ever find it as a place to make friends, and it wasn't even in any of my goals, let alone thoughts, when I joined. I found such loving supportive and helpful people quite soon enough (being not naturally very techy, I had TONS of trouble navigating the site! :lol: I still do, but not nearly as bad).

2. I learned how much I adore FRACTAL art, and only because of dA! I'd only heard of it one time before joining, and because someone was trying to explain it without an image, I didn't get it. It is the only one of many arts I love and adore, but have not tried. I just love looking at them... they amaze and entrance me! Kudos to all of you beautiful Fractalists on dA!! :la:

3. Like in Martial Arts I learned that dA is an easy place to "Pay it Forward" - due to the kindness and help I received in the beginning of joining here, I vowed that I would "Pay it Forward" as much as I could, whether in seemingly equal ways or not, never really being the point, simply helping new people out, or showcasing the art of new people, the sorts of things that others did for me when I first joined.

4.  I learned that I loved to create journals, (mainly because I LOVED to feature work) with the lovely skins made by artists with those types of talents! Creating journals felt like an art, in and of itself.

5. The thing I like the most about deviantART, is the possible camaraderie that there can be, if one wants it. With very few biological family members that I've ever had, and living sooooo far away from any of them, I grew to feel family-like connections with many of my friends here on dA.

6. With dA and life in general, I have learned when to pick my battles, and I pick less and less of them as time has gone on.

7. I used to have gigantic trust issues, for what I still believe to be good reason, before joining dA, which is one reason I was actually super shy for the first about 2 years or so. I still have some trust issues, and I still believe that on the whole it is good to have a healthy amount of issues with trust in our world today, but it was here on dA that taught me, it was okay to start trusting a little again.  This also speaks largely to the medical issue that occurred at the end of 2016, which triggered many of my other medical problems to "flare-up", which led to me to officially "come out" as legally disabled in a journal at the beginning of 2017. I was ever so afraid to write about this, in this particular journal- it's still difficult for me to put into words as to why this was so difficult for me to share.
But on the whole, people were way more loving and kind than I could have ever imagined.

8. Having no expectations most of the time, is truly a gift that I've learned, in general.  Because when any wonderful thing happens, and many do, I truly enjoy it to the absolutely fullest! In the past, I have found with myself, and others, that expecting too much out of things or people, can actually bring a certain kind of misery.

9. Seeing beauty in all manner of the seemingly tiniest of things is not only important, but a gift. I have learned to love slugs and spiders and all manner of things that I did not previously love.

10. I have learned both from dA, and life in general, that, as stubborn as I still find myself to be much of the time, that it actually IS okay, to ask for help, when I previously believed, that if I did so, it would be something I should be ashamed to do.  And yet why did I always think it was okay for others to ask for help? (Mostly rhetorical, but something I've pondered).

I truly thank each and every one of you, for crossing your paths with me in this life. Each of you has said or done something that has led me to have more courage than I used to, as well as a bit more trust... thank you for everything each one of you has done to help and support me, in a wide variety of ways too numerous to name. If only I could give back, or pay forward just as much... but I will live my life trying to do this very thing!

Corazon-17 by Creaciones-Jean Thank You by KmyGraphic my best wishes by vafiehya

I understand if you don't have time to comment, but thank you for any kind comments, too. :aww: It's important to know this NOW, as I may NOT be able to do individual thank-you's for :+fav:'s, or in case I cannot respond to each comment, either. Hello my old friend! It is  wonderful to see your beautiful face again. It's been such a long time since I have written to you and  I'm really sorry about that. I enjoyed your journal immensely  and I learned a lot about you too. I have been on DA for 10 years too. I didn't t realize we started at the same time. So much has happened since I last wrote to you but I'm not going to go into it because it has mostly been bad and I don't want to be constantly negative.  I don't visit DA very often, maybe once a month, but I'm glad I did today and saw your journal. I haven't done any art or photography in ages. I just can't find the inspiration . Take care and I'll try to visit here more often.  💓🤗

:wave: It is so very nice to hear from you Cecilia my dear friend! I has been a long time indeed. Yes it has been a long time... please no need to be sorry... it's not just you, really. It's been one heckuva roller coaster, and my reply to you here just goes to show that it is still true considering it's about two and a half months since I have returned to this photo. It's been a very spotty Summer... lots has happened.

I think we've had some parallels the last couple years or so as far as what all has been going on, and "sounding negative"... you know you can always write to me about anything... who else would be most understanding. I am lucky I've had a bit of contact with... someone else whose kept us both in touch. She's been lovely these last couple of years.

I hope to see you more. Feel free to use email, too, you know. I'm bad with dA Notes, and the like. I think of you often, and I know I always will.

Actually I've had it off and on for about 18 years or so. Sometimes in sometimes out... but once it was out for a while and it closed up, and someone had asked me what happened, and that I had good eyebrows for it, sometime later I had it repierced. In some of my photos in my subgallery of people photos, you'll see me with and without one.

Thank you ever so much for such a lovely comment! :hug:

Lovely photo and congrats on the 10 years. Really enjoyed reading the "10 things we didn't know about you" - certainly did not know you had tattoos - and how did you even end up with a koala?! Moving abroad a lot must have been exciting.

"10 Things you have learned" - we seem to have learned similar things; from using dA as so much more than just an art dump, and the more personal things such as trust issues and asking for help - asking for help is something I have only recently asked for work-wise - i.e in the last week! - while learning to trust more from people who have my best interests (and the teams') at heart (....while also being more cautious around those who seem bent on causing more issues than not...)
Fractal art is wonderful - and that was mostly what I was thinking watching Dr Strange!

Hi Kelly!!! :glomp: Thanks! :aww:

Happy to see you/hear from you. Ahhh yes, tattoos. The first ones were completely not visible being on various places on my back, because I was a public school teacher... but eventually did have a few that showed above my shirts and especially with my hair up, on the back of my neck... and one on my low back, would also show from time to time, because of the style of clothing back then, even as a teacher, with lower pants and higher shirts. Winter was easier to hide them.

But now... well, the most recent one I had gotten I was happy to feel more like it could be visible since I was no longer in a type of job where it sort of mattered-- and it is also the largest one, and covers most of the top of my left arm, (almost a "half-sleeve"). It took a year to do, with a sitting every other month... it is quite beautiful and very detailed.  The downside, is I can't go anywhere in public (when it's warm out, and therefore partially or fully visible) without *AT LEAST* two conversations from strangers... always amazed. I've let people even photograph it, when they've asked, as long as I have my head turned away. I've had six random people ask to photograph it. So since it is so huge and very visible at least it seems obvious as to how artistically done that it is. Even people who don't like tattoos in general comment that it is amazing as an artistic piece.

I never owned a koala, no. I had heard or read about them, or seen a photo of one and then did what research one can do when they are six years old- we had a whole set of Encyclopedias! :D And so, as soon as I knew about koalas, the koala became my first favourite animal. I remember my parents took me to the San Francisco Zoo for my 10th B-Day so I could see one in person for the first time...

... what I would still really like to do though, is see one in their natural habitat, meaning go to Australia... even if it is a reserve, that would be okay.

I've never moved abroad, I only had the opportunities to travel when younger, and I am glad I took those opportunities when I did! :D

~~~~~
EXACTLY on everything you said about "10 things learned from dA"  Most certainly... you wouldn't know it but I was super shy for the first two years on dA.  And asking for help is SOOOOO difficult, but yes, it is here where I learned to at least try without the shame I was previously made to feel for if I ever did such a thing... bleh.  And most definitely, regarding the cautiousness surrounding issues of those who try to make things awful for other on dA.  I refuse to read all of any such horrible things from spammers/scammers, or buy into any parts I do happen to read, and most of all, I count all that IS positive and good on dA, and know that they weigh LOTS more than anyone who feels like they have nothing better to do than spout cruelties that have no basis in reality.
Anyway, I am glad to know you can relate so similarly to the positives we've learned by being here on dA.  I think that's awesome.
:iconblowkissteaplz:
And... always know that YOU have made BOTH my dA experience and my LIFE more enriched via our paths crossing!
Your tattoos must be really good to get so much attention :)
And doh...this is what happens when I try to read and respond so early in the morning! Koalas are fascinating, as is travelling - I hope to do more of the latter later on.
:hug: I would say the same thing about you in the last sentence
Certainly the most recent of them, which is also the most visible and biggest, gets that much attention. The artist who did is awesome at realism, and it's one of a kind. As I brought in a photo for the central part, and sketched out what I wanted for the rest of it, and his freehand drawing of it, (and then later digital colouring of it once he scanned it) was truly spot on!
The only other one of the total of seven tattoos that is completely visible are some music notes
(which I had drawn out and coloured ahead of time, (because I wanted the notes to add up to 4/4 time, because all four of us in my most immediate family from childhood were always very involved with music, and just love so many types of it etc.),
which are on the side of my neck and meant to look like they are going toward my ear- BUT, my hair often covers them, and even when my hair is up, they are behind my earrings. Even so, it doesn't compete with the very visible and artistic largest one.
Oh please do travel- if and WHEN the opportunity should ever rise, do not pass it up. I recommend this to anyone younger than I am and in decent health.
