Last year I made a vow to myself that I would see Black Panther. It was mandatory that I saw this movie, not just because I'm trash for superheroes, but that I needed to see people who look like me, running shit. Welp, I finally saw Black Panther last Saturday. And damn was it sexy and lit af. Among the many things I enjoyed in the film was the Afrofuturistic setting, a refreshingly beautiful and dignified portrayal of Africa that was long overdue and the offering of an intersectionality that is sorely missing from sci-fi and fantasy.
My only wish was that the perfection that is Black Panther was more queer. In the comics, there was a lesbian relationship between the two warriors, Ayo and Aneka. That would have been a great opportunity to see openly gay black women in a superhero flick.
In other news,
It's been ten years since the Blue Sky movie hit theaters. I remember seeing it at the theater four times over that hot summer. When I first got on DeviantART, it was one of the first things on my mind so there are some arts in my gallery somewhere. I even own the movie on DVD. Another anniversary comes on the 15th of May, the date when Horton discovered that speck.
