Bang! Bang! Bang!
Li'l J knocked on the huge castle doors with the metal ring that had been put there for just that purpose. He stepped back, almost tripping over his own feet, and waited for a response. At last the door opened a little, a Pokemon's eyes visible on the inside.
"Who goes there?"
La'ana stepped forward and put her fin to her forehead in a salute of some sort. "Team Riptide of the rescuers!" she said, firm and confident. "We've come to-"
Slam!
When the door was shut, La'ana's fin dropped to her side and her expression turned sour, now a glare at the closed door soon accompanied by a foul gesture.
"Oh, well! We tried! Let's go!" said Li'l J, even though he knew that La'ana wouldn't give up, especially after they angered her.
"No," she responded firmly, just as Li'l J had predicted. "I have an idea."
La'ana ran off, dragging Li'l J along with her. A while later they returned to the castle's entrance, La'ana's plan ready to be put to the test. She knocked at the door and once again they waited for someone to answer. The door opened a bit once again.
"Yes?"
This was a different voice than last time, so La'ana and Li'l J sincerely hoped it was more friendly.
"Trick-or-treat!" they both yelled. It was around Halloween time, so it was time for Halloween tricks! La'ana had used what she could find to make little costumes for Li'l J and herself. She was dressed as a cheerleader, using some grass attached to her bulbs as pompoms. Li'l J was wrapped in some toilet paper, making for one of the most miserable mummies around.
"I feel stupid!" Li'l J whispered to his partner.
"Quiet!" she whispered back.
The door opened more and a Charmander clothed in a maid outfit stepped out. "Oh, nice costumes, kids!" she said. "Let me see if I can get you some candy. I'm sure m'lady can spare a few pieces."
"Thank you, ma'am!" La'ana said, putting on her sweet little girl act.
"No problem!" said the Charmander as she went back inside, leaving the door wide open, just as La'ana had hoped.
"Come on! Let's go!" yelled La'ana, motioning for Li'l J to follow her inside.
"Okay," said Li'l J as he stepped inside, "but... Where!? There must be a million rooms in this place!" He pointed to at least ten different doors and staircases just in the one room.
"Well," said La'ana, "there can't be too many. We'll just have to keep looking!"
