Cassandra the Queen of the seas

What pulls you to create art?

My motivation to get better and progress and eventually reach my dreams pulls me to continue to create art. It’s become such a huge part of my daily routine and life that I’ve become bad at answering the question. It’s like brushing your teeth. What pulls you to brush your teeth? See? Ha!

Were you always creative growing up? Has any part of that art stayed with you throughout your journey?

I think yes. I was always excited to create - whether it was little mugs on my ceramic lessons or weaving baskets. Art came in later, but I absolutely fell for it. Even though art has become my main passion I still enjoy the other creative stuff like sewing.

If you had to describe your style in 5 words or less, how would you do it?

Realistic, painterly, fantasy, digital, elves!

What are your thoughts on an artist's "style?" How does one find it? Does it change?

I think it’s great when an artist has a specific style that makes them recognisable. The not so great thing about it is that a lot of young artists are obsessed with finding their own style. Sometimes so much, they tend to forget about the art fundamentals. Your art style develops through time and I would say I still haven’t found mine. It’s made of your view on reality, your favourite artists and your inspirations.

How has art changed your life?

Art has taught me that you can always strive to improve and never stop learning. It has also become my full time job that I love and enjoy doing everyday.

Knight of the sun

What are your favorite themes to create around?

I enjoy creating art from games a lot. Especially the ones I play - it’s exciting to take an usually emotionless MMO game character and give it a specific emotion and a scene. It’s like they come more to life! I do try to balance it with original characters as I would love to do concept art in the future.

Has there been a piece (or series) that marked a turning point in your art? What is it? Why?

For me it would be the art in beginning of 2019. I was really upset about my art and didn’t want to do it. I didn’t have any fundamentals and that was really holding me back. On the other hand it also pushed me to try and practise more and eventually I got over this point.

What do you love about the art community?

Everybody is so chill! I love how supportive and kind people are. A lot of my twitch viewers that usually come from gaming streams are amazed on how awesome the art community is.

When streaming, what atmosphere do you aim to create? Why is that important to you?

When streaming, I try to create an educational atmosphere.. I want to show people that you can learn, you can get better and reach whatever you set up for yourself if you work hard towards it. I also like to share tips along the way and help other people in their art journey by critiques, ideas or just simple motivation.

What changed in your art when you started streaming?

The need to improve faster. It’s very different to create art in front of an audience. The feeling that there are around 100 people made me try harder and also it makes me super nervous when I’m creating some art I’m not confident with.

What's it mean to you to be in the DeviantArt Collective?

It’s a huge honor to work alongside my favourite twitch artists. Deviant art has always been a platform I enjoyed, so being a part of it feels amazing.

Who are three artists on DA that you think are awesome and people should watch?

@Artgerm, @Dzikawa, and @SOZOMAIKA

What's a memory you have from being on DA?

My first likes and comments! When I posted my first art about 4 years ago and had my first kind comment it made me excited to do more.

How do you set goals for your art? How do you make sure you never stagnate?

I set small goals and big goals. So for instance I want to learn anatomy perfectly - that is a big goal. I will have it in smaller goals like learning the face first and then continue with female poses and so on. Setting up smaller goals prevents me from stagnating.

For those wanting to dive into art, what's one piece of advice you could give to them?

Don’t give up and don’t think you can’t do it. It takes a long time but with the right mindset and motivation you can achieve so much, just be patient and enjoy the journey.

While I can see that the post bothers you, dA never bans people based on screenshots, mostly because they can be easily forged. Also, while it looks like some users were raised by wolves, it's not against the ToS of dA to curse people out.

Also, I think there is a MAJOR misunderstanding here. I think - personal opinion now - that the artist assumed you're a bot, just a small program poking them for something, and that is why they cursed you out like that. They did not think you were a human with a keyboard and an actual interest in Floyd. :) My suggestion would be to just reply to that comment with a reminder that you are indeed not a bot and that this is rather offensive for you. :)

Edit: short glimpse at the profile and your comment there actually confirmed that suspicion. :D He did indeed think you're a bot.

No i'm going to take down the comments it was a simple mistake. He thought i was a bot. He isn't a bad person, I'm the bad person for posting those comments. Chuck is an awesome person. He thought i was a bot and i'm trying to take down all of the comments

Hey, don't beat yourself up over it. :D Misunderstandings do happen. :) We're on such a multi-culti and multi-language platform, it's surprising how few of them happen, actually. ^^ I'd say, great that you guys managed to work it out! That is a step I rarely see people being able to take!

Just give me a holler if you want me to delete my comments too, so the whole thread becomes invisible. :D

"Each week, we interview a different artist and share their art and featured answers on our official Facebook page." Yeah the problem with that is I'm not on fb. Oh wait, that isn't a problem, is it? I'm on a site called Deviant Art (amongst others). It has its flaws but at least it isn't fb.
