Da Eclipse is a big mess that betrays ALL OF YOU. You want something AWESOME, modern and USER-FRIENDLY?
Make sure to check out 's Unique redesign! Help her make it into reality! SPREAD THE WOLD FOLKS!
My version of DeviantART EclipseFor the past two days I've been trying to come up with an idea about how the site's layout update should be.
Suggestions regarding the Core members' benefits:
Core members should have the ability to customize their background image or colors.
The number of Custom boxes should be 20 instead of 10 for Core Members.
Access to all of the widgets that already existed in this site.
Core members being able to change their username every 3 months.
Suggestions regarding the NON-Core members' benefits:
However, there's a saying that many people don't think about; just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
Example: Super Smash Bros Ultimate comes out with an update patch that completely removes the Final Smashes. And the excuse Sakurai would have is "I did it because I felt like it"
Example 2: Disney decides to remove Mickey Mouse's gloves and have them be bare hands as the "permanent design". And Disney's excuse would be that "they felt like it because it was too old"
Do you know how many people stopped using Skype when they stopped letting you use "the old UI"? The user percentage dropped tremendously because people did not want to update to the new design that takes away features.
We do not want the eclipse to look like the classic layout. We want to keep the classic layout.
Do you hear us, deviantArt staff?
Message to the Staffteam
I thought about not doing this for a long time.
But now. After my account just got randomly switched to eclipse without my permission or knowledge I'm kind of pissed.
So I wanted to talk about my biggest concern about eclipse and how the staff responded to me regarding that concern.
I have a lot of reasons to contact the helpdesk. I've done it a lot of times.
Sometimes I get helpful answers and sometimes less helpful answers. And sometimes it's just infuriating to talk to the helpdesk but that's not the point of this journal or this message.
My concern is this
Where is the report-button?
Oh. I found it
Who thought that this was the way to go?
This has no practical use and it doesn't even make sense.
If you tell me that there are "More Actions" I expect there to actually be MORE ACTIONS than just one.
It looks like your hiding it!
Why would you do that?
And why would you ignore my ques
That's true. But you can give people an overview of your commissions right on your landing page, and have em link to the specific commission. I think that's what the commssion widget does anyway? It's a workaround, but it might be your only option. ^^'
To avoid misunderstanding:
this is where I put my work (and I myself know best where to put it). There is only one category for each work, in the Eclipse they are catastrophically lacking. Copy from Legacy. Don't try to do 2+ categories for one work!!! It will be a complete failure, verified. Just believe me. Let them indulge in tags, if anyone needs it.
I don't use Eclipse because as a year ago it was a beta version, and still remains a beta version.
And not all your comments are showing up in Eclipse either. Ex: It may say 25 comments only 16 or so is showing up and their not hidden. I think something is wrong with both?
Although, sadly, I still prefer good old "classic" site.
IMHO, there are still some bigger problems and a lot of little things to be improved...
/e.g. option to easily use small graphics via :thumb_:, :icon_:, :dev_: and/or "Add Media"; simpler way to fave and organize art in folders; clearer and better arranged page for members communication (Notifications); all pages with more balanced elements sizes and spaces; etc., etc., etc.
Generally speaking, more options to users please!
You can add thumbnails by pasting the deviation link. Alternatively, you can use the add image icons. To add a persons icon, click the smiley face, switch to the avatars tab and search for the person. To mention someone, type @, start the username and a list will show up that lets you select the person you want to mention.
Not sure if that's exactly what you meant, but I hope it helps. Or were those the ways you found more complicated than the old options?
Yea, that's what I meant. It kinda works, but especially for small stuff, like stamps, not really. xD If I'm not mistaken, better display of small images, like stamps and pixelart, are on their to-do list.
