Hello, DeviantArt! You can call me Mel, @longestdistance , or LD for short. I do all kinds of art as a hobby, though my domain is painting and illustration. I come from a very creative family with a love for design, crafting, knitting, woodworking, and more!

While I've been drawing my whole life, joining DeviantArt in 2005 feels like the official start of my artist's journey. My first submissions were crudely drawn pictures of my OCs done in OekakiBBS. Seeing other artists' amazing works gave me something to strive for, and when I realized I could share my art and connect with other artists my age, I dove into the community and began to pursue the magical world of digital art! 

I've met lots of awesome kindred spirits during my time on DA, and even when I forget to post artwork, I'll still always make time for a monthly check-in. I've got 20 years of memories associated with this community!

I like to draw just about everything, whether it's character art, abstract art, scenery, or animals. My interests change frequently as I jump from one interesting topic to another. When you take the time to look, anything can become fascinating. I actually keep a massive spreadsheet of all the ideas I'd like to create someday, because I want to draw basically everything. The opportunity to learn and experiment is truly endless, so I never get bored.

My pieces never feel truly finished. For me, the act of creating is more about the process itself than the final product. It has provided me sanctuary during hard times and brought me exceptional joy during the good times as well. 

Art's not just a hobby; it's a way of making sense of the world around me. Art is my sacred space and the one aspect of my life I have complete control over, and that's priceless!
