Learn easy ways to customize your profile!
Do you want to customize your profile on DeviantArt? Whether you’re trying to personalize your space for the first time or have been decorating your profile for years, here are some tips and tricks to make your profile feel like home.
Theme Is Everything
To start personalizing your Profile, first come up with an idea for the overall vibe you want it to have. This can range from simply selecting a color palette based on colors you like (or artwork in your Gallery) to deciding what backgrounds you want to use to add interesting elements to your Profile. Go with whatever suits your vision!
How to Customize
Add a Cover Image
Adding a Profile cover image is a great starting point for all deviants, and it’s easy to do!
When creating a cover image for your Profile, the recommended dimensions are 1600 pixels by 800 pixels and 1920x1080 resolution at minimum, so the image fits well and appears clearly for all viewers.
To get started:
Visit your Profile, and click the Add Cover Image button. (This button will say Change Image if you’ve already added a cover image.)
Select an image from your Gallery, Sta.sh, or your computer.
Once you select your image, you can reposition it by clicking and dragging the image up or down to select exactly how the cover image will display.
Click “Done” and you’re all set!
Add a Profile Skin
Give your entire Profile a stylish look by adding a Profile Skin as your background!
To add one, click the Profile Skins option on your Profile. You’ll see a variety of premade options already available, or you can click the + to upload your own image!
If you upload an image, you’ll be prompted to select between dark and light theme for your Profile, as well as whether your uploaded image should be tiled or static.
For darker background images, it's best to choose the dark theme (and vice versa) so the text on your Profile is readable. If you select static for your uploaded image, make sure it’s 1920x1080 resolution at minimum with a 16:9 aspect ratio, so the image is clear for viewers.

Custom Sections for Custom Needs
If you want to display specific information on your Profile in a variety of ways, then Custom Sections may be right for you!
To get started, click on one of the Add Section buttons on your Profile. When you select Custom Section, you’ll be prompted to choose a template for the section, or you can select Empty Canvas to fully customize it yourself.
If you select Empty Canvas, you can edit a number of settings for the section, most notably the Change Background option! Select a color or pattern that matches the cover image or Profile Skin you’ve set up, then add text and formatting to show off what you want people to see. You can also create a gradient to make your Custom Section more colorful!
Try to keep your Custom Sections consistent in theme to match the rest of your Profile, while also making it clear for viewers. Use the same or similar colors for each section, and make sure to choose text colors that are easy to see and read when paired with the background colors you choose.
