“No! No!” I screamed over and over again as the people in the pale robes held me down on the table. They wouldn’t listen. They didn’t care. Even my family did nothing. They stood there, watching in strange fascination as I was tortured.

The ones in the robes were saying something. No doubt it was about how much pain this would cause me and how my family would be next. I didn’t understand the words, but I could tell what they meant. Only an idiot wouldn’t be able to tell what they meant from their cold, detached tone.

One of the robed ones grabbed my ear with one hand while pushing my face into the cold table with the other hand. A second robes one held the torture device up to my ear.

“No! Not my ear!” I screamed even louder.

No one listened. Couldn’t they hear me?

The liquid dripped into my ear, burning all the way down deep inside. I cried louder. Still no one cared.

A moment later, they flipped me over and did it to my other ear. Why was my family just standing there, watching? Why wouldn’t they help? The robed ones were torturing me!

When it was done, they pushed me back into the torture cage.

My family was smiling and shaking paws with one of the robed ones. What was wrong with them? What had the robed ones promised them?

I felt so betrayed, but at least the ear part was over. The noise torture would be next, but I could survive that. I made it here. I could make it home.

I rubbed my ears, trying to get the foul liquid out. It was all in vein. It was never coming out again. I would never be free of this torture.

One of my family members leaned down and poked a finger in my cage, trying to rub a finger over my head. I pushed against the back. I didn’t want her soothing. She muttered something about ‘good kitty’ but I didn’t care. She helped them torture me. That’s all that mattered. I was never forgiving this.

Not until they fed me some tuna at least.
I'm way late to getting to FFM this year, but at least I have a good excuse. I was traveling around the south west of the US seeing places like the Grand Canyon and Mesa Verde. It was a lot of fun but almost none of the places we went had cell reception or internet available.

At any rate, I'm home again and working on getting back into things and catching up for the year. Today is for Flash Fiction Month Day 8 and was done using the prompt "No! Not the ear!" Suggested by WindySilver.

Good story. I like that you don't know the narrator isn't human until the end.

BTW, I'm glad to hear you saw the South West desert. It's a beautiful place and I'd like to think there is no where in the world like it. My dad and I used to make it tradition to go during each summer vacation. So many wonderful canyons. So many wonderful memories.

Weird, I didn't get a notification from your mention...

Nice work with the prompt, though! I like that twist! :D

I'm glad you got some good traveling in! I love the Southwest, it's really beautiful.

Also this is definitely any cat getting eardrops. I was horrified until about halfway through, but I think it's hilarious!

Thank you. The south west was amazing. My favorite place was Mesa Verde. The Grand Canyon was indescribable too, but I have a thing for archeology so the Mesa Verde cliff dwellings was just a little better for me.

Yeah, I thought about having to medicate my cats when I read the prompt. Doing it from their perspective seemed like the best way to write it.

How cool! I've only ever seen Mesa Verde through history class photos. I have/had family near Phoenix, so that's mostly where I've ended up (except for the Grand Canyon). So hot and dry. I love it.
